Exhibition of outstanding works in autumn academic outreach event

秋季學術推廣- 班級優秀作品出爐囉!

During the autumn academic outreach event, exceptional 

works from each class, exploring the theme 'Cultural Impressions,' will be on display in the school corridors from 12/9 to 12/22. Also, the second stage of the school wide completion is also ongoing. Students and teachers will vote on the works of their favor during this two weeks exhibition period.  

秋季學術推廣活動"文化印象"第一階段各班優勝作品，已由各班選出，於12/9-12/22在學校走廊展示。第二階段全校性分齡組比賽也隨即展開，全校師生皆可以透選票來選出第二階段的優勝者，歡迎大家駐足欣賞和踴躍投票。

Question: In our family, we mainly communicate in Chinese. As kids get older, why do they often start speaking less Chinese, even if they still understand it?

Answer: Children born abroad often lose interest in using Chinese, prioritizing English as they accumulate vocabulary. Communication is vital for language acquisition, so if family members are proficient in Chinese, consistent use is crucial. The child's hesitation to use Chinese may be due to struggling to meet language requirements. If the child chooses English, family members should patiently reinforce Chinese communication, boosting the child's confidence and strengthening the parent-child bond.

問: 我們家裡交流都是中文，為什麼孩子越大就越不願說中文?即使他聽得懂?

答: 海外的孩子大多缺少使用中文的動力和需求, 語言環境更讓孩子在上幼兒園後逐漸社會化，隨著他學習英文的詞匯量和時間增加，他會慢慢拋開"用不上"的語言。然而, 交流是學習語言的本質動力, 因此家人若能說中文，請堅持用中文交流, 因為孩子不願意用中文表達是因為他的中文詞匯量已經跟不上他的使用需求。他用英文表達，家人不要輕易妥協,可以耐心的用中文重複他的表達，或是用中文確認他想表達的意思,不僅可以加強孩子學習語言的信心,也能透過有效交流，鞏固親子關係。

The South Coast Chinese Cultural Association (SCCCA) is an educational and cultural charity organization spontaneously formed by Chinese in Southern California. Not only did SCCCA establish the largest scale Irvine Chinese School in Southern California in 1976, it also gathered the strength of the Chinese community in 2005 and established independently the only South Coast Chinese Cultural Center in Southern California dedicated to promoting traditional Chinese culture and Chinese learning and advocating and realizing a multicultural life."
