Friendly reminder! The high school placement test will take place this Saturday, April 20th, at 4:30 PM, and Sunday, April 21st, at 4:10 PM. Test takers must present their eighth-grade or high school student ID for verification, If you have not registered yet, please register directly through the link on the right. On-site registration on the day of the exam will not be accepted.

Recruitment for the position of Summer Camp Volunteer Coordinator is currently ongoing! This role entails supervising and managing high school 

volunteers, along with overseeing camp-related matters. We are looking for college students at the sophomore level and above who are proficient in both Chinese and English, have a proactive and lively personality, and exhibit leadership qualities. Alumni are particularly encouraged to apply. The work period spans from June 10, 2024, to August 9, 2024, with six  hours  per day, Monday through Friday. Interested individuals should send their resumes to aa@sccca.org

We are thrilled to introduce a "Chinese Story Time" event that we are hosting every Sunday at the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center's library. This event is designed for children aged 4-7 and their parents. It's a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and enjoy quality time while delving into the rich world of Chinese culture through captivating stories. Best of all, participation in this event is completely free.

Gu Yu (Grain Rain)

There is a popular nursery rhyme among Chinese folk called “A Rhyme of the 24 Solar Terms” and within this rhyme there is a line that can be understood to express “Spring rain awakens the spring, the rains after Qing Ming bring forth grains.” This refers to six of the 24 solar terms of spring: “Li Chun (Start of Spring),” “Yu Shui (Rain Water) ,” “Jing Zhe (The Awakening of Insects)”,” “Chun Fen (Spring Equinox),” “Qing Ming,” and “Gu Yu (Grain Rain).” Today’s date of April 19th typically signifies the start of “Gu Yu (Grain Rain),” a period of abundant rainfall and growth that ends around May 4th. The original meaning of “ Gu (grain)” refers specifically to shelled grains, which remain an essential part of Chinese agricultural production until now...

在中國民間經常傳唱《二十四節氣歌》，其中有一句歌詞是“春雨驚春清穀天”，這分別代指春天的六個節氣“立春”、“雨水”、“驚蟄”、“春分”、“清明”、“穀雨”。

The South Coast Chinese Cultural Association (SCCCA) is an educational and cultural charity organization spontaneously formed by Chinese in Southern California. Not only did SCCCA establish the largest scale Irvine Chinese School in Southern California in 1976, it also gathered the strength of the Chinese community in 2005 and established independently the only South Coast Chinese Cultural Center in Southern California dedicated to promoting traditional Chinese culture and Chinese learning and advocating and realizing a multicultural life."
