Parenting Tips

Question: Question: My child shows reluctance to complete homework. Is it possible to request a focus solely on listening and speaking or to ask the teacher to reduce the homework load?

Answer: Effective language learning should cover listening, speaking, reading, and writing. If students develop a vague and fearful perception of Chinese characters, it will inevitably pose challenges to their language learning in the future, hindering the sustainability of the learning journey. Given the current constraints on language learning, with children able to attend Chinese school only 1-2 times a week, homework becomes crucial for reinforcing regular practice. Therefore, we encourage parents to assist children in cultivating positive homework habits, encouraging them to complete a little each day instead of accumulating tasks to be done all at once before class, as this could lead to a child developing an aversion to the work.
