The 2025 Summer Camp, hosted by the South Coast Chinese Cultural Association (SCCCA) and Irvine Chinese School (ICS), will officially kick off on June 16.

This year, the program introduces an innovative approach by integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) themes into Chinese language learning for students in grades 2-6.

Parents can choose from half-day or full-day programs, combining language classes with cultural workshops, sports camps, and enrichment activities such as Chinese music, chess, and creative arts.

Early bird registration discounts are available, and enrollment opens on March 15.

Designed by Irvine Chinese School, the camp will run for eight weeks from June 16 to August 8, divided into four two-week sessions.

For Kindergarten and 1st-grade students (based on Fall 2025 enrollment), the Beginner Growth Program offers a full-day Chinese immersion experience (9:00 AM - 3:50 PM).

Each session features unique learning themes such as "Family Photos," "Come Join Me for Breakfast," "Happy Birthday, USA," "It’s My Birthday," and "My Leisure Activities."

Students in grades 2-6 will be placed in programs based on their Chinese proficiency: CSL Chinese Conversation Class (for beginners) and Language Discovery Class (for students with listening, speaking, and writing skills).

Both morning courses offer parents the afternoon options of Cultural Workshop and Enrichment Camp, allowing students to customize a full-day learning experience.

Innovative STEM-Integrated Learning

The CSL Chinese Conversation Class (Grades 2-6) and Beginner Growth Program (K-1) share the same morning themes, focusing on practical, real-life applications to enhance students’ Chinese listening and speaking abilities.

The Language Exploration Class (Grades 2-6) takes a new approach, incorporating STEM topics to help students develop Chinese proficiency while exploring scientific concepts.

Irvine Chinese School Principal Jennifer Su explains that STEM education has long been a focus for Chinese families due to its benefits in developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity.

This year, the school is introducing STEM-based language learning to make Chinese classes more engaging and relevant to students’ interests.

Exciting Summer Themes & Cultural Enrichment

Curriculum planner Ms. Leah Huang  highlights four dynamic thematic sessions designed to immerse students in both Chinese culture and STEM education: "Science Explorer", "Treasure Hunter", "Engineering Makers" and "Martial Arts Heroes".

These sessions incorporate Chinese mythology and history, featuring legendary figures such as Nezha, the Monkey King, and Mulan, alongside hands-on projects involving treasure hunting, the Terracotta Warriors, pirate ships, science experiments, and bridge structures.

This approach bridges Eastern and Western learning to enhance students' curiosity for both Chinese culture and STEM concepts.

Hands-On Cultural Workshops & Specialty Camps

The afternoon cultural workshops are led by experienced instructors and feature engaging, hands-on activities taught in Chinese, including Cultural Handicrafts, Ancient Scientific Inventions, Traditional Ethnic, Chinese Culinary Arts and Interactive Play & Fun.

These workshops have been a highlight of past summer camps, attracting families from across the country.

Additionally, for grades 2-6, the camp offers half-day sports camps and specialty enrichment programs, including Guzheng (Chinese zither), Chess and creative Art and Crafts.

These courses allow students to quickly develop new skills while making the most of their summer break.
