“Now the flowers bloom, their petals kissed by dew…” On August 31, the Los Angeles Chinese American Performing Arts Association revived Steven Liu’s timeless hits at the Culture Center of T.E.C.O. in Los Angeles(Santa Ana).
Backed by pianist Bei Yu Su’s jazz band, members performed 28 classics—including "The Moon Over the West Tower"--filling the hall with nostalgia and thunderous applause.

Amateurs & Pros · Sharing Shows
Association president Ruth Yang noted that the group hosts two concerts annually in Los Angeles, blending professional and amateur performers.

At the invitation of local audiences, the association brought the event to Orange County for the first time. Ruth thanked the Cultural Center for its venue support and the community for their enthusiastic turnout.
Timeless Songs · Lasting Legacy
Known as the “Godfather of Mandarin Pop,” Steven Liu composed over a thousand songs. Hits made famous by stars like Teresa Teng, Fei Yu-ching, You Ya, and Fong Fei-fei all came from his pen.
This tribute featured 28 classics, including “The Moon Over the West Tower”, Plum Blossom, and Deep, Deep Courtyard—all movie theme songs. “The Moon Over the West Tower”, Steven Liu’s 1968 breakout hit, remains a household favorite across generations.

Songs Unite · Hearts Ignite
President Ruth Yang said that aside from former singer Ella and soprano Teresa Chen, a former Miss China, most performers were amateurs united by their love of music. Nearly 200 attended, filling the hall with energy.

From the start, many in the audience hummed along, some filming with their phones. When President Ruth Yang led “Plum Blossom” and “Ode to the Republic of China”, the crowd joined in, creating a warm, stirring scene.
Former Irvine Book Club president Cathy Chiang and member Nancy Chen happily showed off the program, noting that many songs, though decades old, remain unforgettable.
Former NTUAA-SC president Grace Wang and her husband were also in attendance. The concert closed with everyone joining voices for Homeland and Goodnight Song, ending on a heartfelt note.

OCCACC director Betty Beyrn Shiau praised the event for uniting the community and highlighted the Overseas Community Affairs Council’s six social media platforms (Newsletter, YouTube, LINE, Instagram, X, and Facebook) as bridges to connect with overseas Chinese worldwide.
