Registration is now open for the 2024 Irvine Chinese School Cultural Summer Camp! This summer, let your children dive into the rich cultural tapestry of our Chinese summer camp, offering a holistic experience bridging ancient traditions with modern life and blending Eastern and Western lifestyles.
Our camp features a variety of classes including Chinese storytelling, conversational Mandarin, cultural workshops, sports activities, and talent development programs, with flexible scheduling options for full-day or half-day sessions. This year, our cultural workshops promise a vibrant array of experiences, with students rotating weekly through five engaging courses: cultural crafts, scientific discoveries, culinary delights, immersive Chinese experiences, and fun-filled summer activities. We invite students entering grades K-6 to enroll, with early bird discounts available for registrations before 5/5.

Chinese Immersion Beginner
Immersive Chinese beginner courses are specifically designed for children entering kindergarten to first grade in the fall of 2024. We offer a comprehensive Chinese immersion experience, with all classes conducted in Mandarin. Each two-week course explores different themes, including captivating storytelling, singing, arts and crafts, and games. Our experienced teachers in early childhood education guide children through language acquisition while ensuring enjoyable and enriching experiences.

Each week centers around a particular season. The teacher presents a captivating story from a seasonal picture book daily, leading students in exploring the rotation of seasons, transformations in nature, and the associated 24 solar terms through poetry, songs, art projects, and classroom games. Mandarin Conversation (CSL)
|
Students will engage in learning Chinese conversation through half-day group activities, stories, games, and crafts. Centered around specific life themes and linguistic objectives, they will develop practical and engaging daily dialogue skills. Before enrolling, students undergo an assessment to determine their proficiency level, and the course is open to beginners with no prior knowledge of Chinese. Our indoor multi-purpose sports arena is equipped with basketball, tennis, badminton, indoor soccer, and pickleball facilities. Our experienced coaches provide a safe and positive environment to teach children the fundamentals of each sport and help them improve their skills.

Students will participate in a weekly rotation of five cultural courses (A-D), grouped based on their morning language proficiency levels. Novice-Low students will receive appropriate English assistance.
Five courses are as follows: - Cultural Crafts: Engage in creating cultural art projects using techniques like calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting.

Scientific Inventions: Explore ancient or modern scientific practices such as papermaking, printing, gunpowder, and dyeing.
- Ethnic Customs: Gain an understanding of the unique architecture, clothing, geographical resources of various ethnicities, or participate in ethnic activities/dances.
- Huaxia Flavors: Combine arts and crafts with the taste of unique Chinese cuisine from festivals or solar terms.

Summer Frolic: Experience Chinese childhood games, night market activities, team-building exercises, karaoke, and participate in fun competitions that stimulate creativity.

Chinese Instruments
Students will learn about different traditional Chinese instruments – how they work and how to play them. The course is designed such that students will be able to play simple, but familiar songs to increase their interest in Chinese music. Chinese Drum
Drumming is beneficial to emotion regulation and sensory integration. Students will learn to combine body movements and drumming rhythm together, which can effectively help reduce daily stress. The South Coast Chinese Drum Team is directed and conducted by Mr. He Bin, who took part in the Chinese music creation and recording in both Disneyland in Shanghai and California.

Fun Sports
The "Fun Sports" program is a mix of fun and challenging sports activities including volleyball, indoor soccer, kickball. Camp counselors will explain each sport's rules and set-up practice and warm-up drills; counselors will then referee scrimmage games in each activity. Students should dress in sports attire, wear gym shoes, and bring a labeled water bottle. We will be emphasizing hard-work, sportsmanship, and teamwork in each activity."

Not only did SCCCA establish the largest scale Irvine Chinese School in Southern California in 1976, it also gathered the strength of the Chinese community in 2005 and established independently the only South Coast Chinese Cultural Center in Southern California dedicated to promoting traditional Chinese culture and Chinese learning and advocating and realizing a multicultural life."
