Prior to leading the Foundation, Joanna worked as a corporate attorney specializing in representing companies through various stages of their development, including mergers, acquisitions, and other exits.

Joanna volunteers her time on several nonprofit boards, including the Orange County Community Foundation, Orange County Grantmakers (current Chair), Asian American Futures (Co-Founder & Past Co-Chair) and the UCLA Lowell Milken Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofits. She was previously a board member for the Guang Yuan Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit providing need-based scholarships in Taiwan. Joanna received her B.A. in Criminology, Law, and Society from UC Irvine and her J.D. from UCLA School of Law.

As a proud alumnus of Irvine Chinese School and a second-generation Chinese American residing in Irvine, I am deeply invested in the mission and values of SCCCA. Having personally benefited from the organization's programs, I am eager to give back to the community that has given me so much. Serving on the Board of Directors would allow me to play a more active role in shaping the future direction of SCCCA, particularly in engaging and empowering the younger generation of Chinese Americans, fostering greater collaboration with other community organizations, and contributing my professional skills and expertise to address challenges and opportunities facing SCCCA. It would be an honor to serve on the Board and contribute to the organization's mission of preserving Chinese heritage, and to strengthen SCCCA's legacy in our community.

My diverse experiences in the legal, philanthropic, and nonprofit sectors have equipped me with a unique set of skills and perspectives that have prepared me to lead SCCCA as a Board member. As the Executive Director of the Sun Family Foundation, I have gained valuable experience operating a charitable foundation and built a strong network of nonprofit professionals and organizations. My background as a corporate attorney has provided me with an understanding of legal and financial matters, enabling me to guide SCCCA through any challenges and ensure its long-term sustainability.

Furthermore, my experience serving on several nonprofit boards has given me a deep understanding of board governance, strategic planning, and organizational management, allowing me to effectively contribute to SCCCA's strategic direction. As a second-generation Chinese American and an alumna of Irvine Chinese School, I have a strong personal connection to the Chinese American community and a deep appreciation for preserving Chinese heritage, which, combined with my professional experiences, will enable me to effectively advocate for and support SCCCA's mission and programs.
