Liu Lanying

My grandmother, Liu Lanying, represents the determination to persevere throughout the turmoil in life. She represents the essence that keeps the candle of life burning. Even through death and birth, love and heartbreak, moving and settling, she continues to go on.

My grandmother is fierce. She will fight for love, her dreams, and what is right. But there are times when she is vulnerable. When life takes away what was precious, what was loved, what was cherished - she pulls the curtains and weeps, but keeps on fighting.

And she loves. She loves her friends, her family; the books and the dance and the music. It seems, however, that life is what she loves most.
