On January 22, 1991, Dr. Hong-yen Hsu departed from his beloved world and family, leaving behind his lifetime collection of Taiwanese art to be shared with his people. Although his physical presence passed away, his dream and great vision never ceased.
In 1996 Mrs. Lin-Run Hsu accomplished her husband’s dream of establishing a home for the Sun Ten Collection in Irvine. With her profound love of her homeland–Taiwan and her firm belief in God, Mrs. Hsu was determined to achieve her husband’s dream and continuously encouraged her children to uphold it. With the enormous support of the Hsu family, sculptor and close family friend, Feilong Chen, diligently worked to establish a home for this invaluable collection: the Sun Ten Museum.
The Hong-yen Hsu Memorial Library, hereby known as the Sun Ten Museum, was officially established in 1996. With over 8,000 square feet, this museum contained a library introducing Dr. Hsu’s life and research and two exhibition rooms (the Sun Ten Hall which houses the main collection of the Taiwanese renowned masters and the Lin Run Hall which served as a multi-functional space for all exhibitions). There was also an information center, storage center for the artists’ work and Taiwanese folk art, studios for various workshops, as well as two refined study rooms.
Following lengthy discussion with Taiwanese officials, the entire Sun Ten collection was donated to the Ministry of Culture in Taiwan in 2019. It was the largest art donation to the Taiwanese Ministry of Culture. The Sun Ten Collection opened officially to the public in March 2021 at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung, Taiwan, thus fulfilling the ultimate wish of Dr. Hsu to dedicate this collection to the people of Taiwan.
Artifacts of Taiwanese folk art and traditional musical instruments from Sun Ten Museum were donated to the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center in 2020.

順天收藏告別美國的 「劇與展」2019 年 6 月在爾灣舉行
順天美術館為在美國立案的非營利基金會，以推動台灣藝文教育及活動為宗旨的美術館。順天美術館擁有約 600 幅具有文獻價值的台灣藝術家作 品，簡稱「順天收藏」。 順天收藏是許鴻源博士畢生為支持發展台灣藝術傳承，以個人能力所及收購為主。經由許鴻源的遺孀、子女及順天美術館的努力，館藏已於 2019 年全部捐出，由台灣國家美術館接手收藏，並於 2021年 3 月首度在台公開對外展出。
科學中藥之父許鴻源
許鴻源 1917 年出生於彰化縣和美鎮，1959 年取得京都國立大學博士學位，是第一位拿到日本藥學博士學位的台灣省籍人士。他創立順天堂藥廠，率先將科學中藥製作技術引進台灣並加以改良，也發表許多中醫藥學術研究，為他贏得「科學中藥之父」的美名。 許鴻源在口述自傳中曾說：「我從小就喜歡看圖畫，但沒有錢學畫。長大後，開始買畫時，第一張買的就是廖繼春的畫。」而他之所以會對收藏畫作產生興趣，很大的原因正是由於他和前輩藝術家廖繼春是鄰居、和平教會的教友，而廖繼春也是許鴻源夫人許林碖就讀長榮中學的美術老師，在其影響下，許鴻源對繪畫藝術與創作者的興趣日益增長。
1975 年許鴻源一家人移民來美，結識旅居美國紐約的謝里法，受其著作《日據時代台灣美術運動史》 的啟發，更堅定許鴻源收藏台灣藝術作品的方向，並委任他擔任收藏顧問。當時台灣還沒有公立美術館， 許鴻源憑個人力量展開收藏行動，成為推動本土藝術成長的先驅。
許鴻源收藏畫作，都儘量先去和畫家交朋友，關心與珍惜創作者，而非僅僅是為作品價值收藏。比方說他曾為李梅樹調養身體，後來李梅樹還為許鴻源夫婦畫肖像，這種與畫家的交誼往來，本身就是台灣美術史重要的一部分。
許鴻源深信「藥物醫人身；文化冶人心」，他也認為藝術是世界人類共通的語言，台灣畫家的作品應廣為世人分享，並使台灣的文化能夠長遠留存下來。
忘年之交的感動
年輕的雕塑家陳飛龍在長堤州大舉辦個展，因而結識許鴻源，陳飛龍帶著幾件作品去拜訪許鴻源，第一次看到陳澄波、廖繼春、李梅樹、洪瑞麟一個個台灣藝術史的大師級畫作攤在眼前，令他震驚不已。
當時許鴻源就明確的告訴陳飛龍，他所收藏的台灣畫家作品，不是許家的財產，而是屬於台灣的，「將來有一天會交給台灣人民」。
這樣的宏願出自一位正在對抗癌症的長輩口中， 讓陳飛龍大受感動，也走進許鴻源的夢想，一步步協助許家兩代人推動這個心願。在許鴻源去世多年後，順天美術館 600 餘件館藏，終於得以返家，越洋運抵台灣台中的國家美術館，並於2021年 3 月公開對外展出。
收藏夢想的故事
1991 年 1 月 22 日，許鴻源博士過逝前仍惦念著的理想，歷經五年的漫長歲月，許多沉重的擔當和困難，在許夫人林碖女士秉持著一份對台灣的愛心和完成先夫遺願的信念下一一克服。許夫人林碖女士一心存著利益世人，榮耀歸主的宗教信仰，勉勵許氏子女照信、照義、純真承繼許博士對台灣的愛心，完成父志，大力支持雕塑家陳飛龍推動完成這個許鴻源博士生前的理想、大家的美夢。
1996 年許鴻源博士紀念美術館（簡稱順天館）正式在爾灣成立。順天館佔地八千平方英呎，包括鴻源室、簡介許鴻源博士生平，兩個展覽室；順天廳，主要展示「順天收藏」；林碖廳，為一多功能性質展覽室，另闢思室（供資料參考和會客）。「順天收藏」收藏室，柜具展覽工作房和工作室、觀瀑亭、聽雨軒等二所；另有一些台灣民俗文物收藏保存在同一建築物館外的倉庫中。
順天美術館館長陳飛龍說，許鴻源收藏從來不是為了等待畫作增值，看重的是畫家在歷史中的定位， 以及畫作如何展現台灣每個時代的面貌。因此，有別於從藝術投資觀點出發的專業收藏，順天只買不賣的原則，以及在收藏畫作過程中，與藝術家本人的互動、互信及情誼，最後，不僅收藏了大量藝術作品， 更收藏了藝術上豐富動人的故事。
