We are excited to present our latest family service project, the Traditional Embroidered Fans Workshop, which offers a unique opportunity to explore the art of Chinese heritage embroidery while creating your very own handcrafted fan.

About the Traditional Embroidered Fan: The traditional Chinese round fan, known as the "團扇" (tuán shàn), is not just a beautiful piece of craftsmanship; it symbolizes unity, friendship, and good fortune. Its history dates back to the Shang Dynasty when it was initially used for religious ceremonies. During the Western Han Dynasty, fans began to serve as a means to stay cool in the sweltering heat. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, feather fans were replaced with silk, satin, and other woven materials, often embellished with exquisite embroidery.

Workshop Highlights: Our hands-on workshop will allow you to appreciate the beauty of embroidery and create your personalized fan. This activity not only promotes cultural heritage but also provides an interactive and creative learning experience, enabling a deeper understanding of Chinese festivals and traditional values.

About Our Family Service Program: Traditional Embroidered Fans Workshop: In the month of November, the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center is delighted to introduce the Traditional Embroidered Fans Workshop as part of our Family Service Program. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive support to Chinese-American families, encompassing areas such as mental health, elderly well-being, welfare services, counseling, and citizenship assistance. In response to specific needs, FSP has now incorporated specialized services designed to address family dynamics and cultural adaptation challenges.

Join Us for a Bonding Experience: During the workshop, we will provide embroidery patches and bamboo fan frames, making it a perfect activity for both parents and children to participate in together, enhancing the parent-child relationship.
