“S. C. is proof that you can do anything you set your mind (to); with hard work and dedication, one can achieve their dreams…… As his name may suggest, he is the bright ‘sun’ in our lives, guiding and helping others.”
“C.C. had a lot of struggles in her life. Starting from the Cambodian Civil war in her childhood, to having to try and fit in exclusively white schools, was very difficult for her. Current challenges include dealing with cancer (and rebellious teens). Luckily, she is still living a happy life taking care of her family and her garden.”
Those are part of the story maps our students of Asian American Leadership program produced as their learning outcome. Please go to the SCCCA website (https://www.sccca.org/pages/aayl/) to read the beautiful short stories made by 11 students. They interviewed one family member or relative about his/her immigration paths. Then the student put these routes on a map, put together with that person’s photos and descriptions. The final product is a online booklet for the family to treasure.
