The 23rd Newport Beach Film Festival has selected more than 300 noteworthy films to the largest west coast film festival. More than 50,000 attendees are expected to visit various venues around Newport Beach from Oct 13 to Oct 20, 2022.
Here are a couple of Mandarin speaking feature-length films (with English subtitles) from China and Taiwan:

Also noteworthy among the documentary selections is Surf Nation (2021, USA), a feature-length documentary directed by Jessica Q. Chen and Jeremiah Bogert Jr. The film tells the story of the first generation of Chinese National Surf team and the struggle of athletes as young as 9-years-old.

第23屆新港灘電影節將自10月13日至20日舉行，近300部來自世界各地的影片入圍參展，其中包括多部今年剛出爐的華語劇情片及短片。
獲主辦單位特別推薦的三部華語劇情片中，包括中國和義大利合作的《遇見你之後》(The Italian Recipe)，全片外景在羅馬拍攝，由南加大電影學院畢業的女導演侯祖辛自編自導。
代表台灣角逐2023年奧斯卡金像獎的社會寫實片《該死的阿修羅》(Goddamned Asura)，選在新港灘電影節舉行美國首映，電影從一場隨機殺人事件，探討家庭、職場文化、網路與階級等議題，由樓一安導演。
今年初在台灣上映的校園愛情片《我吃了那男孩一整年的早餐》(My Best Friend’s Breakfast)，由杜政哲編劇、導演，杜政哲編劇的推理電視劇《華燈初上》，不久前在Netflix 熱播，讓他一砲而紅，《我吃了那男孩一整年的早餐》是杜政哲執導的首部電影。
除了熱門的劇情片之外，新港灘電影節還選映許多平日難得一見的影片，例如運動、音樂、藝術設計、美食、環保、家庭、動畫、短片、大學生及青少年作品等等。
以中國國家衝浪隊為主角的紀錄片Surf Nation在海南拍攝，從年輕選手培訓經歷，反思衝浪與進軍奧運的夢想。定居南加州的美籍華裔導演陳琨，也是衝浪愛好者。她在衝浪雜誌上，讀到中國培訓第一支衝浪國家隊的文章，而引發前往海南拍片的構想，她有意透過紀錄片反思個人與集體間的互動關係。
提倡多元、創新的新港灘電影展，受到新一代電影人青睞，就讀南加大電影學院碩士班的王子鈺今年有三部短片入選新港灘電影節，由王子鈺導演的劇情短片《未來》(Wei-Lai)，講述生長在移民家庭的華裔男孩，要求好友的白人父母收養他，從孩子的眼光來看中西文化的差異。
由南加大電影學院研究生張紐約執導，王子鈺製片的另一部短片《霧中的她》(Mother In the Mist)，最近剛獲南加州KCET公共電視台Fine Cut學生影展最佳劇情短片獎，《霧中的她》以新冠疫情導致的封城為背景，敘述與家人離散的小女孩尋找媽媽的故事，全片在武漢拍攝。
