California Governor Newsom signed Bill AB2238, one of the most substantive bills addressing climate-driven heat on September 9, 2022. This bill would require the agency, by January 1, 2025, to develop a statewide extreme heat ranking system in coordination with the ICARP, the State Department of Public Health, and the Department of Insurance, as provided. The signing by the Governor marks the significance of California being the first state to do so.

“CA Governor signed my measure, #AB2238, creating the nation’s first Advance Warning & Ranking System for Extreme Heat Waves! Believe it or not, this may be the coolest summer of our lives. CA will continue to experience record breaking heat waves.” Said Assemblywoman Luz Rivas, the lead author of this bill.
