Art historian Hsun Chiang is a renowned intellectual and Taiwan’s most prominent advocate of aesthetics. He has written extensively on art history and published a beloved collection of lectures on solitude, taste, and life. Much of his writing is devoted to reviving Eastern art and “regaining the right to dictate our own narrative.” In recent years, he has made his work more accessible through audiobook recordings where he takes on the tone of a soothing preacher as he discusses classic literature.
Professor Chiang will give a special talk for members and friends of SCCCA and Irvine Book Club. He will focus on one of the most famous poems of Tang Dynasty “Spring River Flower Moon Night”. The event will be conducted in mandarin on Oct 29 from 7 PM.

蔣勳談《春江花月夜》，這首詩為唐代詩人張若虛所寫，在清朝的時候，被編入全唐詩當中，初唐的《春江花月夜》，可說是最早觸碰宇宙意識的一首詩，全詩36句，九次轉韻，四句一韻，講春天、講江水、講花朵、講月亮、講夜晚，五個主題交錯出現，有時候是春天跟江水對話，有時候是花跟月亮對話，有時候是夜晚跟江水對話，構成五個字，五個主題，千變萬化的節奏，可說是唐詩裡，最精彩的一首交響詩。
