


Coach Lonnly Ching gave an introductory Taichi talk and demonstration at the University Park branch of Orange County Public Library on Oct 23, 2022. This is part of We Are OC, a series of family-friendly programs celebrating the diverse cultures represented in our community.
Coach Ching’s tips for Taichi beginners:
- Seek recommendations for a qualified coach. Avoid copying movements from online videos.
- Memorize the moves and their names, such as White Crane Spreads Wings.
- Pay attention to your body's center of gravity. The goal is to maintain your balance with each move by shifting body weight smoothly between 2 legs.
- Protect your knees by aligning the direction of your knee with the toe and never over bend your knees.
- Maintain a regular practice schedule preferably with a group. SCCCA Taichi Club holds practice sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at 9 Truman, Irvine.

初學太極拳的要領
現代太極拳源自中國河南省陳家溝,經由代代相傳而發展出不同的流派,對初學者而言,不論是學習陳式、楊式、吳式、孫式…太極拳,最重要的是找一位經驗豐富的教練,並堅持常常練習。儘管在網路上可以看到不少教太極拳的視頻,程教練並不推薦初學者照著視頻依樣畫葫蘆。
南海岸中華文化中心太極俱樂部10月23日應橙縣公立圖書館之邀,在大學公園圖書館舉辦一場介紹太極拳的英語講座,由太極俱樂部程俊銓教練分享初學太極拳的要領,吸引了許多有意學太極拳的各族裔居民參與。
程教練強調,練太極拳時要隨時注意身體重心的轉移,有時候重心平均分佈在兩腿,有時候大部分重心在單腿上,形成一實一虛之姿,在重心轉換之間,不但訓練腿力,也培養平衡感。太極拳的動作平緩、流暢,看似簡單,其實越慢越難做,想打好太極拳一定要勤於練習、持之以恆。南海岸中華文化中心的太極俱樂部,每週一、三、五上午9點半到11點定期晨練,為拳友們提供一個互相學習、彼此鼓勵的園地。
初習太極拳的學生,可能為了做出某些動作而不小心傷到膝蓋,只有靠教練及時糾正,才能避免類似的錯誤,習武30多年的程教練說,當年他初學太極拳幾個月後,就有膝蓋疼痛的情況,所幸碰上一位經驗豐富的老師,及時改正屈膝過度的動作,因此他也特別注意提醒新手要保護膝蓋。
程教練還示範了太極推手的原理,在雙人徒手對抗的練習中,指導原則仍是保持自身的平穩,並順應對手使力的方向,使對方失去平衡,達到以柔克剛、出奇制勝的目的,程教練認為,太極推手彷彿是一場心智的對奕,與太極拳套路是體與用的關係,互相補充,相得益彰。
