Bowers Museum will once again welcome international couture powerhouse Guo Pei as she transforms the galleries into a world of fantasy this fall. The exhibition Guo Pei: Art of Couture premiers with a fresh take on the artist’s finest and most personal pieces. This new exhibition opens to the public on November 12.
Guo Pei: Art of Couture will feature over 40 works of couture art curated for exhibit by the world-renowned designer. Among the bespoke selection is Guo Pei’s Chinese Bride collection, which makes its North American debut at the Bowers.
This show marks the third time Guo Pei has exhibited at the Bowers and will be an exhibition milestone for Guo Pei. Choosing from the canon of her creative genius, the exhibit represents a creative journey that charts Guo Pei’s rise as China’s ‘Queen of Couture.’ Each gown not only underscores her unique ability to tap into China’s rich cultural heritage, but also an array of cultural influences from international arts, architecture, and mythology. The interplay of female empowerment, strength and vulnerability are all reflected in exquisitely executed couture.

Guo Pei is China’s most renowned couturier. For over 20 years, she has been dressing celebrities, distinguished ladies, royalty and the political elite who turn to her for show-stopping, magnificent creations when they want to look beautiful and stand out from the crowd.

2015 marked a major turning point for Guo Pei, when the pop singer Rihanna chose to wear one of her designs to the Met Gala, inaugurating the museum’s China: Through the Looking Glass exhibition, in which Guo’s works were shown. In July 2015, she held her first solo exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris; she followed that with a sold-out collaborative makeup collection with MAC. Later that year, Guo was honored to become an invited member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the chief governing body of the high-fashion industry, allowing her to show on the Paris Haute Couture Week calendar.
Guo made her Paris Haute Couture debut in January 2016. In the same year, she was also named one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, and one of the Business of Fashion’s 500 most influential people shaping the global fashion industry. Her exquisite creations now go beyond the runway and red carpet, creating iconic global moments and fostering a wider awareness of China’s cultural heritage and influence.
又一場“華服盛宴”將在寶爾博物館展出：“郭培：高定時裝的藝術”
2022年11月12日至2023年5月14日 “郭培：高定時裝的藝術” 將在寶爾博物館展出。這是郭培高定時裝作品第三次來到寶爾，也是郭培作品在博物館展出的一個里程碑。郭培是全球時尚界極具顛覆性的設計師，她的影響已經永久性地改變了全球時尚產業。《時代周刊》(Time)這樣評價她的作品：“巨大的、跨越國界的——不是用東方或者西方可以界定的！”
“郭培：高定時裝的藝術”，將从一個全新的视角为民众呈現郭培高定時裝的藝術魅力，40多件/套由郭培本人親手挑選的高定作品，匯集了設計師最具個人風格的作品，濃縮了設計師近二十年的高定藝術之旅。這也是繼今年4月“郭培：奇幻高定”在旧金山美术馆荣勋宫成功展出後，又一場風格迥異的郭培高定時裝大秀。
此次展覽的最大亮點是郭培傾心設計的“中式嫁衣”，首次漂洋過海來到北美！其中有著名影星劉詩詩穿過的郭培設計第一套嫁衣：潮繡褂皇(King of Chaoshan-style Bridal Top and Skirt)，這套裙採用彩金線三維立體龍鳳紋刺繡而成，製作耗時近7,500小時。
寶爾博物館華人董事長施劉秀枝女士說：高級定制是時裝界的金字塔塔尖。郭培的高定藝術，將傳統服飾元素與現代設計巧妙結合，將東方和西方不同文化的精髓完美地融合在一起，呈現出兼具現代美感和古典韻味的獨特風格。
郭培簡介
郭培被譽為“中國的高定女王”。二十多年來，無數明星名流、政商精英和皇室成員都來找郭培設計服裝，為的是更好地彰顯自我，在人群中脫穎而出。
郭培的刺繡，融古通今，是其服裝最醒目的標識。秉承對中華文化的傾心熱愛，郭培一直致力於傳統服飾工藝的研究與創新，不僅將青花瓷的秀美和水墨畫的意境運用到服裝設計中，還讓幾千年的刺繡工藝在高級定制中大放異彩。
郭培最初引起全球關注，始於2015年5月小天后雷阿娜(Rihanna)在大都會博物館的慈善晚宴(Met Gala)中選穿的“大黃袍”。當時，名為“中國：鏡花水月”(China: Through the Looking Glass)的展覽在大都會博物館展出。郭培有兩件作品(青花瓷和大金)入選該展。
2016年，高定時裝的權威機構“法國高級時裝公會”(Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, 1868)邀請郭培參與當年巴黎春夏時裝周，這是郭培高定時裝的巴黎首秀，發佈地點是巴黎美術學院(Musée des Arts Décoratifs)。這也是法國高定公會成立近150年來，首次正式邀請中國的服裝設計師在巴黎時裝周進行專場發佈。
巴黎首秀之後，郭培被《時代周刊》(Time)評選為全球100位最具影響力人物(她是作為“藝術家”入選的)，還被《時裝商業評論》(Business of Fashion)評為塑造了全球時尚行業的最具影響力的500人。如今，郭培無與倫比的精美創作已經超越了T台和紅毯，成為全世界對中國文化遺產及其影響力認識的代言人。
