Irvine Chinese Immersion Preschool Holiday Performance

Irvine Chinese Immersion Preschool students staged a special show to thank family and friends on Dec 9th. They sang “Jingle Bells”, “Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer”, “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”,”Where’s My Friend”.......all in Mandarin without any hesitation. They even performed a skit in Mandarin complete with dialogues & several songs. The skit “The Rainbow Flower” was adapted from a picture book. The actors retold the story of how the rainbow flower gave away its pedals to animals in need and gained their friendship.

According to Ms. Fiona, half of our preschoolers come from non-Mandarin speaking families. The kids picked up Mandarin naturally by learning in an immersive way. Some of the parents who came to the show could not understand what the students were saying but they certainly enjoyed the performance!

爾灣中文沈浸式學前班佳節秀超可愛

將近40名不滿五歲的學前班小朋友，9日下午在南海岸中華文化中心馬氏劇場為他們的家人及朋友推出一場慶祝聖誕佳節的特別節目。

四個班級的小朋友都穿上應景的服裝，為現場添加歡樂的喜氣。熊貓班全部戴著超大的黃色領結上台，海豚班都打扮成可愛的綠色小精靈，老虎班的一身紅色聖誕裝也很搶眼，他們高唱中文歌，並在老師的指揮下，配合音樂表演可愛的動作，贏得全場不絕的掌聲及喝采。

壓軸的節目是由貓頭鷹班推出改編自兒童繪本的短劇《彩紅色的花》，扮演太陽、彩紅花、小螞蟻、蜥蜴、刺蝟及三隻蝴蝶的小演員們，用中文對話講述了彩紅花將花瓣一一送給有需要的動物，協助他們解決問題的故事。對話中間還穿插配合劇情的中文兒歌，小朋友在老師提示下，第一次上台就有亮眼的表現，字正腔圓的華語對白，顯示出沈浸式中文教學的成果。

學前班的Fiona老師說，三歲到五歲是學習語言的最佳時期，爾灣中文雙語學前班中，有一半的孩子家中不講華語，他們一星期五天在全中文的環境裡學習，很快就能講流利的華語，達到學中文事半功倍的效果。
