Congratulations to SCCCA newly elected and appointed directors: James Guo, Janie Tsao & Andrew Mar.

South Coast Chinese Cultural Association (SCCCA) has successfully held the annual election for new Board of Directors in June, 2023. Based on the votes by the trustees, SCCCA Board of Directors has approved the two elected Board Directors (Janie Tsao, James Guo) and one appointed Board Director (Andrew Mar) on June 12, 2023.
James Guo served as SCCCA Board of Director in 2013-2018 and joined the Board in 2019 again. James has served as the President of SCCCA since 2021. Under his leadership, SCCCA has successfully submitted the charter school Petition for Irvine Chinese Immersion Academy which will open in August, 2023. James Guo is a Journalist with over 40 years’ professional experiences. Before his retirement, he was the President of World Journal LA for more than 14 years from 2005 to 2019. World Journal is the most well-known and largest Chinese American newspaper for almost 50 years in the US. James had worked as an Editor-in-Chief in 3 large cities including World Journal in LA, World Journal in NY and Min Sheng Daily in Taipei. His educational background includes a BA degree in Journalism from Chinese Culture University in Taiwan, a Master degree in Journalism and Communication from National Chen Chi University in Taiwan.

Janie Tsao served as SCCCA Board of Director in 2016-2018 and was re-elected for 2019 -2021. Driven by Janie’s extraordinary passion and generosity, the Chinese Cultural Center was able to establish the first ever South Coast Chinese Orchestra and to repurpose the facility to open a children Library, an immersion preschool as well as to provide social services during the pandemic. Janie currently serves as the President at Miven Venture Partners where she runs day-to-day operations and startup advisory work. In addition, she leads the Tsao Family Foundation, which works with many charities and non-profits both locally and nationally. Janie has served as Senior Vice President of Business Development and Worldwide Sales and Marketing of Cisco-Linksys, LLC. She is the co-founder of Linksys, LLC. Janie holds a BA degree from the University of Tamkang, in Taiwan. She enjoys playing with her grandchildren as well as spending time in nature and traveling around the world.

Andrew Mar was a founding president of the SCCCA Second Generation Association (SCCCA-SGA) from 2003 - 2009, which was later changed to the Irvine Chinese School (ICS) Alumni Association. Andrew was also a member of the ICS Orchestra from 1988 to 1997, and has been a trustee of SCCCA since 2022. Andrew is currently an intellectual property lawyer at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP, which is the largest law firm in San Diego, and has specialized in drafting patents for technology entities for over a decade. Andrew's educational background includes a BS in Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a JD from Loyola Law School. Andrew and his wife currently live in Irvine with their one-year old daughter, and has been a strong supporter of both the private SCCCA Irvine Chinese Immersion School and the charter Irvine Chinese Immersion Academy.
