Our July Meet & Greet Tuesday moved to a second-floor classroom at the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center in anticipation of several musical performances. The roomful of guests enjoyed brewed hot tea and snacks while catching up with each other.
Eddie Chen, who recently graduated from Taipei American School, has made a name for himself as the champion of the high school division in the Taipei City Cello Competition. This fall, he is set to pursue further studies at Michigan State University. Taking advantage of his summer break, Eddie decided to visit his relatives and friends in Irvine.
Eddie managed to borrow a great cello in Irvine to continue playing during summer. He performed cello alongside his grandfather on harmonica.
The grandfather-grandson duo began the performance with solo renditions of their respective signature pieces. They then captivated the audience with a heartfelt and moving rendition of a Taiwanese folk song. The melodic performance touched the hearts of everyone present, earning them endless praise.
Ms. Betty Shiau, the Director of Overseas Community Affair Council in Santa Ana, also attended the event as a special guest. She reminded the attendees to take advantage of the OCAC's convenient services in Santa Ana by making reservations in advance.
The preschool children from the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center delighted the audience with their lively and adorable renditions of nursery rhymes. Their performances were met with thunderous applause throughout the venue.
It was truly an unforgettable morning filled with remarkable musical talent and vibrant cultural exchanges. The monthly meet and greet event will take a break in August and return with a new program in September.
