In these challenging post-pandemic times, the SCCCA's Family Support Program (FSP) takes a compassionate approach to empower Chinese American families with invaluable resources and aid in overcoming life's obstacles. With a focus on mental health, senior health, benefit information, counseling referrals, citizenship assistance, and more, the FSP is committed to offering comprehensive services tailored to the unique needs of the community.

Mental well-being is of utmost importance, and recognizing this, the FSP (Family Support Program) has introduced new services to address the specific challenges faced by Chinese American families. From parent-child interactions to homesickness and cultural maladaptation, the FSP has curated three transformative series to support individuals and families alike.

Firstly, the Culture Workshop is a nurturing space that revolves around Chinese festivals, designed to alleviate homesickness and reduce stress caused by cultural maladaptation. By participating in these workshops, Chinese Americans can find solace in a supportive community rather than feeling isolated. A workshop for making calligraphy bookmarks is in the planning for the upcoming Qixi Festival. Another workshop on making moon cake is scheduled for September.

The First Culture Workshop will be the Chinese Valentine's Day Bookmarks
Join us to explore the history of Qixi, understanding the romantic tales behind this ancient festival. Immerse yourself in Chinese calligraphy as you learn basic strokes and techniques to pen a heartfelt wish or blessing in Chinese characters. Witness your calligraphy masterpiece merge beautifully with a handmade bookmark, uniquely crafted with your touch.

Secondly, the Chinese Storytime initiative focuses on strengthening the parent-child relationship by fostering quality family time and building positive connections. Through engaging stories that delve into Chinese culture, children not only learn about their heritage but also develop a deeper understanding, leading to a reduction in intergenerational conflicts. The Chinese Storytime will begin in September on selected Sundays.

Lastly, the Culture Exhibition is an immersive experience where participants can explore various aspects of Chinese culture. Exhibitions on traditional Chinese Instruments, costumes, handicrafts, children’s games, aboriginal clothing, and so on are in the planning.

Beyond the enriching experiences these workshops offer, they also serve as a platform for Chinese Americans to connect with like-minded individuals, forging communities of support and friendship.

At SCCCA's Family Support Program, we understand that the journey through life can be complex, especially in these unprecedented times. Our mission is to stand beside Chinese American families, providing the guidance and assistance they need to navigate through challenges successfully. Together, we can build a stronger and more resilient community, nurturing a brighter future for all.
