August 22nd is Chinese Valentine's Day, also known as "Qixi." On this special day, the SCCCA’s Family Support Program organized the "Chinese Valentine's Day Bookmarks" event. Through the art of traditional calligraphy, participants wrote heartfelt words and phrases, conveying rich emotions. We were honored to have Mr. Shih-Hao Lan from Taiwan as a special guest for this event. Mr. Lan provided insights into the historical significance of bookmarks and explained the beauty behind traditional phrases and expressions. This event was a meaningful way to celebrate Qixi, bringing together culture, art, and emotions in a truly unique and memorable manner.

In this romantically charged Qixi (Chinese Valentine’s day) event, we embarked on a journey to explore the historical background of Chinese Valentine’s day, delving deep into the romantic love stories that underlie this ancient traditional festival. Through engaging explanations, we successfully created the unique romantic ambiance of the Chinese Valentine’s day, allowing each participant to gain a deeper understanding of this traditional celebration.

Next, we guided participants into the enchanting world of Chinese calligraphy. They had the opportunity to learn some basic strokes and techniques, and personally inscribe a heartfelt blessing or wish in Chinese calligraphy. These heartfelt wishes, born from the heart, would become precious imprints on the unique bookmarks that participants crafted, brimming with personal emotions and aspirations.

Finally, we blended participants' calligraphy works and bookmarks into a handmade masterpiece. Through their skilled hands, a Chinese Valentine’s day Bookmark
, filled with individual style and blessings, came to life. This special token of affection could serve as a warm gift for loved ones or close friends, or a cherished memento to be treasured, evoking special emotions each time it was pursued.

This event allowed participants to collectively embrace the romantic atmosphere of Qixi, learn the art of Chinese calligraphy, and craft one-of-a-kind bookmarks to convey warmth through love. It provided an unforgettable experience for everyone involved, enriching the meaning of the Qixi Festival. Let us continue to remain closely connected in love and romance, passing on this beautiful sentiment.
