Director General Amino C.Y. Chi of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles visited the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center in Irvine with his wife. On a tranquil morning, the atmosphere at the center buzzed with excitement as Mr. and Mrs. Chi received a warm welcome from the staff and exuberant preschoolers of the Irvine Chinese Immersion School, whose Mandarin melodies filled the air with a delightful vibrancy.
The Executive Director of the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, Yulan Chung, led Mr. & Mrs. Chi on a tour, guiding them through the storied corridors of the Guan-Yuan Tai Educational Building. As they walked, she unfurled the center's rich history, highlighting the Irvine Chinese School, a beacon of heritage and culture that has stood proudly for 46 years.
The Guang-Yuan Tai Educational Building, a testament to community and parental dedication, stands as a unique architecture gem, having opened its doors in 2005. This building not only serves as the home for the Irvine Chinese School but also cradles the private Irvine Chinese Immersion School within its walls.
As Mr. Chi continued his exploration, the building's gymnasium, children's library, auditorium, and classrooms spoke volumes of the local Chinese American community's dedication to preserving and nurturing their cultural heritage. His eyes reflected a deep respect, and his words echoed a firm intent for future collaboration, envisioning the cultural center as a bridge for cultural exchange, kindling a robust connection with Taiwanese roots for the upcoming generations.
The event brought together illustrious community figures, among them Beatrice Tseng, Secretary of the South Coast Chinese Cultural Association, board member Rose Tsai, Manager of Cultural Center Benjamin Sun, Principal of ICS, OCAC in Santa Ana director Betty Hsiao, OCAC Senior Adviser Minnie Chiu and former Irvine Vice Mayor Anthony Kuo, each contributing to the day's rich dialogue and shared vision of cultural perpetuity and exchange.
