The Time Theatre Collective kicked off the new year with their grand production "Wilderness," performing three shows at the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center Gymnasium, led by director Yiping Jia along with a talented ensemble.
"Wilderness" tells a compelling tale of family, love, and life choices set against the backdrop of rural China. The narrative unfolds the fortunes and misfortunes of a family, intertwined with emotional conflicts and struggles among its members.
Yiping Jia and five actors delivered a mesmerizing performance for the Chinese-American audience in Southern California. Each actor portrayed their roles with unparalleled skill, showcasing profound emotional depth. The script, rich in both comedic and tragic elements, resonated deeply with the audience.
Despite facing numerous challenges leading up to the performance, including delayed props and multi-tasking responsibilities among the team members such as stage design, lighting, and choreography, the group demonstrated remarkable resilience and adaptability behind the scenes, ensuring a seamless production even in the face of unexpected setbacks.
Director Yiping Jia aims to bring more Chinese theatrical experiences to the Chinese-American audience. Through the medium of drama, he hopes to foster greater understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture, bridging cultural gaps and promoting cross-cultural exchange and integration.
