AAYL is a youth organization established by the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center after the pandemic. Led by UCI Associate Dean of the School of Humanities Dr. Judy Wu, Executive Director of the Office of Enrollment Management Dr. Tony Hwang, and PhD student Mary Nguyen, AAYL focuses on the entire Asian American community.
AAYL aims to cultivate a new generation of Asian American leaders who can engage in dialogue within American society and develop fair and just solutions to societal challenges and needs. Additionally, AAYL encourages Asian Americans to actively participate in civic activities and develop the leadership skills needed for social change. Furthermore, AAYL raises broad awareness of the immigration history of the overall Asian ethnic and cultural groups within the Asian American community. These efforts subtly enhance and promote the contributions of Asian Americans to American society. At the same time, by conducting various interactions within the community, AAYL uses its influence to gradually reduce acts of hatred and discrimination against Asians in American society.
Since the summer of 2022, AAYL has launched and hosted a series of activities closely related to the Asian American community, such as Asian American Identities, Asian American and Social Justice, Life Skills Workshop, Understanding Asian American Narratives, The Cost of Belonging, and so on. These activities have allowed people to see the world from the perspective of young Asian American high school students. The students use their unique viewpoints to authentically present the situations faced by Asian culture in contemporary American society. Through AAYL's activities and dialogues, young Asian American participants have the opportunity to convey a unique and powerful voice, which not only promotes the mainstream society’s understanding of Asian culture but also contributes to a diverse society.
With the support of the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center and several professors from UCI Anthropology, AAYL has gradually grown stronger. Its activities and research topics have become more targeted and practical, attracting the active participation of many high school students from Orange County. To further expand its influence, AAYL will offer free lectures for the community during the summer of 2024. This AAYL speaker series will consist of four sessions, held every Tuesday in July from 6-7 PM PST via Zoom meetings. 在南海岸中華文化中心和 UCI 人類學幾位教授的支持下，AAYL 逐漸壯大，活動和研究話題更加具有針對性和應用性，吸引了 Orange County 眾多高中生的積極參與。為了進一步擴大影響力，AAYL 在 2024 年暑假期間為社區民眾提供免費講座，邀請了四位知名演講者，共同探討亞裔美國領導人在社區倡導中的挑戰與成就。此次 AAYL 演講活動一共四期，分別在 7 月的每周二下午 6-7 點，以 Zoom meeting 的形式開展。您可以根據自己的時間和日程掃碼報名，選擇其中的一期或幾期。細節如下：
