In extreme heat and high humidity, the body must work harder to maintain a normal temperature. Look out for signs of heat related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Prepare for outdoor activities by wearing layered clothing and sturdy shoes, and by following the safety tips included in our Outdoor Activities Safety flyer and social media posts.

  • Apply sunscreen every two hours or as needed to prevent sunburns.
  • Ensure that your devices are charged for navigation, contact purposes, or emergencies.
  • Drink water before, during, and after your activity. The general rule of thumb is 1 liter, or 32 ounces, of water per hour, per person.
