Language is an integral part of culture. To promote Chinese culture, in addition to advancing Chinese language education, we have found that combining elements like music, dance, art, and historical legends to tell stories can be very effective.
The "Legends" musical, meticulously planned and presented by the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, uses this innovative approach. On stage, it features original compositions played by both Chinese and Western instruments, and incorporates Chinese martial arts, dance, and rhythmic gymnastics to bring the stories of legendary Chinese figures such as Hua Mulan, Monkey King, and NeZha to life.
For children learning Chinese, this musical is a visual and auditory feast that allows them to deeply experience the charm of Chinese culture in an entertaining environment. The bravery and loyalty symbolized by "Hua Mulan" will inspire children to understand the values in Chinese culture.
The wisdom and courage represented by "Monkey King" add fantasy and fun, helping children appreciate the allure of the language during their learning process. Meanwhile, "NeZha," symbolizing intelligence and strategy, will help children grasp the depth of Chinese history.
For the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, the "Legends" musical is not only a witness to our commitment to promoting Chinese culture, having grown from humble beginnings to become a voice for the Asian community, but also aims to help young Chinese Americans find cultural confidence and address external prejudices against Asians. The goal is to build a harmonious society where everyone can pursue beauty and mutual appreciation together.
