The South Coast Chinese Cultural Center is excited to announce the grand debut of the Original Musical "Legends" at Segerstrom Hall in Orange County on October 12. Yulan Chung, CEO of the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, and the production team, including South Coast Chinese Orchestra Conductor He Bin, Music Director Jiangli, and Chinese Dance Company of Southern California Director Cheer Pan, who recently Scouts the Venue and held a site meeting to discuss preparations.

During the meeting, the team engaged with stage engineering experts to cover technical aspects such as stage equipment and sound effects. They also toured the backstage area, inspecting the makeup team, changing rooms, and restrooms to ensure a smooth experience for performers on the big day.

"Language is a vital part of culture," Chung noted. "To promote Chinese culture, we combine music, dance, art, and historical legends in our storytelling." The musical features original compositions by renowned composer He Bin, integrating Chinese martial arts, dance, and rhythmic gymnastics to bring to life the stories of "MuLan," "Monkey King," and "NeZha," three legendary figures in Chinese history.

For children learning Chinese, "Legends" offers a captivating visual and auditory experience, immersing them in Asian virtues. "Mulan" teaches lessons of filial piety and loyalty, "Monkey King" represents bravery and wisdom, while "NeZha" embodies justice and responsibility—empowering children to face challenges courageously.

The performance will be held at Segerstrom Hall, the largest performing arts center in Orange County, which seats 3,000 and regularly hosts major productions such as Broadway musicals, ballets, and symphonies. The opportunity to showcase "Legends" at this prestigious venue highlights its recognized quality and promises to deliver a stunning experience for the Orange County audience.

Segerstrom Hall features four levels of seating, thoughtfully arranged to ensure unobstructed views of the stage for all attendees. The theater is equipped with state-of-the-art sound technology, ensuring a superior audio experience for every seat. With a spacious stage and comprehensive backstage facilities, it can accommodate a wide range of performances, from symphonies to operas, making it a coveted venue for artists.

Chung emphasized Segerstrom Hall's deep connection to the Chinese community. When the hall was first built, fundraising efforts led by an Asian woman were first instrumental in bringing Chinese cultural events to its stage. With the launch of "Legends," the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center aims not only to honor this cultural legacy but also to foster community involvement. Chung hopes this initiative will continue to spread cultural connections and shine brightly within the community.
