The 23rd "Irvine Global Village Festival," hosted by the City of Irvine, kicked off on October 5 at the Great Park, attracting tens of thousands of visitors to its vibrant atmosphere across five stages. The South Coast Chinese Cultural Center showcased several captivating performances on stage, along with interactive booths featuring calligraphy workshops, guzheng lessons, student exhibitions of Chinese paintings, and badminton activities, making it one of the event's main attractions.
The "Irvine Global Village Festival" is the largest multicultural arts and cultural event in Southern California, organized into three main areas with five stages. Attendees enjoyed a diverse range of global cuisine and cultural exhibitions from Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, allowing everyone to experience different cultures and celebrate the artistic season in Irvine, truly embodying the spirit of America as a "melting pot."
To promote Chinese culture, the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center has actively participated since the festival's inception. This year, under the leadership of CEO Yulan Chung, the center presented a variety of traditional performances, including dance, drumming, martial arts, a Chinese orchestra, and instruments like the erhu, pipa, and flute, with a total of thirteen acts that delighted the audience.
To give attendees a firsthand experience of Chinese culture, the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center set up booths for calligraphy, guzheng performances, student exhibitions of Chinese paintings from the Irvine Chinese School, and badminton activities. The calligraphy and guzheng demonstrations attracted enthusiastic participation from many families, with parents and children joyfully learning to write Chinese characters together. Some foreign children even had the opportunity to try playing the guzheng for the first time under the guidance of teachers, and they were thrilled.
Additionally, "Legends,"Original Musical produced by the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, which will be performed on the evening of October 12 at Segerstrom Hall. This marks the first time that music, dance, Chinese martial arts, and artistic gymnastics are combined to portray three historical Chinese figures: MuLan, the Monkey King, and NeZha. During the festival, the SCCCC distributed promotional posters for the event, which drew many attendees eager to inquire and collect them.
