On Halloween Eve, the Irvine Police Department unveiled a police Cybertruck, touring local neighborhoods to highlight the importance of police-community partnerships. Children in various costumes eagerly greeted officers and posed for photos with the Cybertruck, creating many heartwarming moments.

The department hopes the truck’s striking appearance will help children see police as their guardian angels, promoting community safety and collaboration from an early age.

A "Police-Community Face-to-Face" public safety forum targeting the Asian community will be held on November 16 at the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center. Police Chief Michael Kent will share updates on local safety, along with insights from traffic, patrol, detective, and special operations leaders.

Irvine Police spokesperson Karie Davies noted that the city’s growth, driven by major companies establishing headquarters in the area, has led to a population surge of to over 338,000. This growth poses challenges in traffic, public services, and law enforcement. The police department employs 260 officers, leveraging flexible staffing and advanced technology to enhance public safety and build community trust.

To strengthen ties with residents, the police assist neighborhoods in forming watch programs and engage through community events. For example, the Cybertruck visit before Halloween delighted children, who excitedly explored the vehicle and posed for photos with officers.

The "Police-Community Face-to-Face" forum will specifically address the concerns of Irvine’s large Asian population, particularly the Chinese community. Chief Kent and department leaders will engage directly with residents on safety issues, providing a valuable opportunity for discussion.

To streamline the conversation, a QR code on the event poster allows community members to submit safety questions by November 10. Attendees will receive a complimentary mini safety flashlight (while supplies last).

The forum will feature Chinese-speaking officers to provide translations and answer questions in the native language. Discussion topics will include traffic safety, theft prevention, violence, drug-related crimes, and more, aiming to inform residents about available resources and enhance community safety through collaboration.

The "Police-Community Face-to-Face" public safety forum will take place on Saturday, November 16, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center Amphitheater, located at 9 Truman, Irvine, CA 92620.

Karie Davies
