Dr. Hsin Chang, a seasoned pediatrician, was invited by the Irvine Book Club to lead a discussion on Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity by Dr. Peter Attia, a Canadian-American physician.
Dr. Chang highlighted the author’s argument that both lifespan and healthspan are highly malleable, and with intentional effort and consistency, we have far more control over our health outcomes than we often realize.
Health and longevity have long been topics of widespread public interest. The Irvine Book Club invited Dr. Chang, who has over 33 years of experience as a practicing pediatrician and is now retired, to guide the audience through Attia’s book, which focuses on longevity. The event attracted an audience of over 200 people, both in-person and online, with the venue filled to capacity.
Dr. Chang emphasized that thanks to advances in medicine, it’s not only possible to live longer, but also to live healthier, provided we adopt the right strategies and mindset for longevity.
According to Dr. Chang, Attia’s book serves as a practical manual for longevity. In it, the author draws on the latest scientific knowledge to offer innovative nutritional interventions, optimize exercise and sleep techniques, and provide solutions for emotional and mental health challenges.
Attia views longevity as both a science and a strategic approach—one that can extend lifespan while also improving physical, cognitive, and emotional health. Dr. Chang explained that we must adopt personalized, proactive longevity strategies in order to ensure long-term health and create the best health plan for ourselves.
Laura Yen,The president of the Irvine Book Club, expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Chang for attending in person to lead the discussion and for providing valuable insights into the book’s themes on longevity.
To help attendees better understand Attia's discussion of longevity, Dr. Chang presented a concise and clear overview, offering numerous examples. Additionally, she created a PowerPoint presentation that combined text and visuals to help explain the concepts, leaving the audience with a wealth of useful knowledge.
After the lecture, many members approached Dr. Chang with questions about longevity and wellness, and she generously offered her presentation slides for their reference. For those interested in learning more about the book, they can click on the book’s page for additional information.
