The 2024 Irvine Chinese School "Write and Draw Life" Poster Voting Event has officially launched, quickly drawing the attention of parents, teachers, and students.
With guidance from teachers, students from kindergarten to high school created posters on various life topics, using Chinese language and illustrations to express their personal experiences and feelings.
The school has designed a "three-in-one" voting system for students, teachers, and parents, allowing everyone to interact, observe, and learn from each other.
This innovative, life-oriented teaching method has made the event enjoyable for teachers, students, and parents alike, blending education and fun.
The event has also attracted participation from students in the Orange District, including Fletcher and Villa Park schools.
Every year, Irvine Chinese School holds an autumn academic promotion event aimed at encouraging students to use Chinese to express their life experiences.
This year's theme is "Life Impressions."
Teacher Leah Huang, who designed the event, explained that each student, whether a native or non-native Chinese speaker, has a different level of Chinese language proficiency based on age.
Therefore, each group has different requirements, such as Zhuyin (pinyin), characters, sentences, and paragraphs.
Teachers explain the theme in class, then guide students in creating their posters through handwriting, drawings, and graphic design.
In addition to making posters, students are also required to give oral presentations.
The selected works from each class show the students’ thoughtfulness, creativity, and unique ideas, which have impressed both parents and teachers.
According to the event design, the topics are as follows:
- Kindergarten: "My Birthday Party"
- 1st and 2nd grades: "My Family"
- 3rd and 4th grades: "Introducing Food" (including mom’s signature dishes, holiday meals, recipes)
- 5th and 6th grades: "My Hobbies"
- 7th and 8th grades: "Visitor's Guide"
- 9th and 10th grades: "Travel Plan" (including budgeting, planning sightseeing routes, buying food souvenirs)
- 11th and 12th grades: "Movie Poster" (students must summarize the story in Chinese, express their thoughts, and design a poster that attracts others to watch the movie)
Principal Jennifer Su of Irvine Chinese School pointed out that the goal of this academic promotion is to move beyond textbook limitations, using a more life-oriented learning approach to strengthen the effectiveness of language learning.
These life topics for different age groups allow students to express their thoughts in Chinese through writing and speaking, while also fostering their interest in learning the language and building confidence.
Through public voting, teachers, students, and parents can participate together, sharing the students' progress in learning Chinese and appreciating the effort they put into their creative works.
In the future, the event will be expanded to encourage more children learning Chinese to enjoy the process, and confidently express their thoughts in Chinese.
The selected student works are currently on display in the school’s first-floor lobby.
Voting is open until January 5th, 2025. We invite everyone to join the voting event.
Voting tickets can be obtained at the front desk, and participants will receive a small gift after voting.
The awards for the winners will be presented during the school’s New Year celebration on January 25th-26th, 2025.

2024爾灣中文學校學生 「寫繪生活」 海報票選活動隆重登場，旋即引起家長和全校師生駐足欣賞。透過老師從旁指導，從幼稚園到高中學生針對不同生活主題，實際運用中文詞句和插畫製作海報，表達個人的經驗感受。
學校還設計學生、老師和家長「三合一」票選機制，讓各班師生和家長能互相觀摩和學習，創新的生活化教學，讓師生和家長樂在其中，寓教於樂。這項活動也吸引Orange學區Fletcher, Villa Park 學生共同來參與。
爾灣中文學校每年均舉行秋季學術推廣活動，目的在鼓勵學生運用中文來寫繪生活、表達自我。今年學術推廣活動以「生活印象」為主軸。
設計這項教學活動的黃蘊綠老師表示，無論中文為母語或非母語學習的學生，還有每個年齡層對中文的認知程度都不同。
為此各年齡層會分別以注音(拚音)、字詞、段落、文章等不同的要求標準，請老師在課堂上先向學生說明主題，再從旁指導學生透過手寫、手繪並結合平面設計方式，來製作海報。
學生除製作海報，還要口頭報告。目前各班獲選入圍學生作品，處處皆能看到學生的用心、巧思和獨特想法，讓家長和老師非常驚喜。
根據活動設計，幼稚園主題是「我的生日會」，一、二年級主題是「我的家庭」、三、四年級主題是「介紹飲食」媽媽的拿手菜、年菜、食譜，五、六年級主題是「我的愛好」、七、八年級的主題是「參觀手冊」。
高中九、十年級主題是「旅遊計畫」，並需要能計畫預算、規劃景點路線、購買美食紀念品。
高中十一、十二年級主題是「電影海報」，同學除了要能以中文手寫敘述故事、總結摘要、表達自己的觀後感外，整體海報設計還必須要能吸引大家觀賞電影。
爾灣中文學校長蘇依雯指出，這項學術推廣活動是希望中文教學能跳脫教科書的限制，透過更生活化的學習方式，從而強化語言的學習效果。
這些搭配各年齡層的生活主題，使學生不僅能透過中文「我手寫我口」來表達自己的想法，更拓展學生學習中文的興趣，建立更多的自信心。
透過公開票選也讓師、生、家長能共同參與，分享孩子們學習中文的成效、感受他們在創作上的用心。未來將向外推廣，讓更多學中文的孩子樂在學習，勇敢並自信地用中文說、寫來表達自己的想法。
各班入圍學生作品目前展示在學校一樓大廳，票選活動自即日起到明年1月5日截止，歡迎各界人士來參加票選活動，選票請向櫃台索取，完成投票將獲贈小禮品。
學校將在2025年1/25-1/26校內新春活動中頒獎給優勝學生。
