The application period for the "Attorney Rose Tsai Outstanding Public Service" Scholarship has closed. The selection committee is currently reviewing applications, and the final results will be announced on February 1.

On July 24, 2014, Xinran Ji, a Chinese international student at the University of Southern California (USC), was tragically killed.

Four suspects were arrested following the incident, and the victim's family became involved in lengthy legal proceedings against the perpetrators.

Rose Tsai, former president of the Taiwanese American Lawyers Association and recipient of the Outstanding Legal Professional Award, volunteered as the family’s attorney, advocating for the harshest punishment for the perpetrators.

After years of legal efforts, the suspects were found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

To honor Rose Tsai's selfless dedication and commitment to social justice, the victim’s family established the "Attorney Rose Tsai Outstanding Public Service" Scholarship.

The scholarship aims to encourage young students to engage in public service and advocate for social justice.

This scholarship is one of the few nationwide focused on public service and social justice.

High school and college students of Chinese descent in Los Angeles and Orange counties who have demonstrated significant contributions to community service are eligible.

Five scholarships will be awarded, each with a certificate and $2,000.

Since the scholarship was announced, many parents and students have inquired and applied.

Applicants' public service actions are diverse, including: Volunteering with international medical teams in Nepal, founding an "Anti-Aging Organization," teaching healthy eating at senior centers.

Organizing cardiovascular workshops, writing heart health articles for the elderly, building homes for the homeless in Mexico.

Founding nonprofit organizations, volunteering at homeless shelters, tutoring underprivileged children in music, English, math, and computers, and participating in charity performances….

The selection committee will focus on the impact of applicants’ public service on the community and themselves. Results will be based on the submitted materials, and all applicants will be notified of the results and award ceremony date on February 1.
