At the 25th Orange County Arts Awards in 2025, hosted by Arts Orange County, Bin He, conductor of the South Coast Chinese Orchestra, received the Achievement Award – Outstanding Artist for his contributions as a musician, composer, conductor, educator, and cultural ambassador.
Bin He, conductor of the South Coast Chinese Orchestra(SCCCO), expressed that the award is truly a recognition of the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, all orchestra members, and the entire team behind the “Legends” production.
He sincerely thanked the SCCCC for providing a platform that allows him and his fellow musicians to promote Chinese culture through music, and expressed his gratitude to Arts Orange County for the honor and encouragement to keep moving forward.
Founded in 2017 by Yulan Chung,CEO of SCCCC and supported by Board Chair Janie Tsao, the SCCCO is led by Conductor Bin He and Artistic Director Jiangli Yu.
It unites musicians of all ages, blending traditional Chinese instruments like erhu and pipa with Western ones like violin and flute. It is the only full Chinese orchestra in Orange County.
With strong support from the SCCCC, the SCCCO has collaborated since 2019 with the Pan American Chinese Dance Alliance’s Chinese Dance Company of Southern California to stage three original musicals—Mulan, Monkey King, and Nezha—earning widespread acclaim.
In October 2024, “Legends” debuted at Segerstrom Hall, blending East-West music, dance, martial arts, and animation to bring Mulan, MonKey King and Nezha to life. It became a box office hit and cultural milestone.
Conductor Bin He’s outstanding performance in “Legends” earned him the Achievement Award – Outstanding Artist Award from Arts Orange County, which he will receive at a public ceremony on September 16 at the Samueli Theater in the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.
Ahead of the “Legends” 2.0 show on Mother’s Day (May 11), Bin He expressed gratitude for the award and thanked CEO Yulan Chung and all supporters. He looks forward to giving back with a renewed performance.
