As Mother’s Day approaches, students at Irvine Chinese School are preparing a special surprise for the most cherished women in their lives—their moms.

This heartfelt gift, full of love and gratitude, not only expresses the children’s sincere emotions but also showcases their progress in learning Chinese.

The "Gratitude Card Writing" activity involves students from preschool through high school. With great enthusiasm and creativity, the children are participating in full force.

Younger students express their love through drawings and simple Chinese sentences. They’ve drawn pictures of their mothers and written messages like “What I want to do with Mom”—playing ball, watching movies, or riding roller coasters together. Their innocent words and pure affection are deeply touching.

Ms.Leah Huang, a teacher at Irvine Chinese School, explained how the activity blends language practice with the holiday theme.

Guided by their teachers, students wrote heartfelt thank-you notes and blessings for their mothers in Chinese. Every sentence is a genuine outpouring of love, full of warmth and sincerity :

“The best smell is Mom’s braised pork. Thank you for cooking for Dad and me.”
“My mom works so hard, she wants me to grow up strong.”
“I love your jokes and hearing your laughter—it makes me happy.”
“My mom is like a busy bee, flying around driving everywhere.”
“Mom used to take me to the library; now I help her pick out books.”
“Mom, without you, there wouldn’t be me.”
“Thank you for facing life’s challenges with me.”
“I hope you live a long, long life so we can travel the world together!”

These words reflect the true feelings students want to share with their moms. As one teacher noted, “Even if the grammar isn’t perfect, the sincerity is all there.

In fact, the raw, unpolished sentences often make it even more moving.” Another teacher observed that the activity naturally created a warm, grateful atmosphere in the classroom:
“Mom, you are the person I love most in my life. Thank you for your patience and silent support. I love you!”  “Thank you for always being there for me, Mom!”

In addition to writing, students will perform Chinese poetry and songs on Mother’s Day.

Each class has its own creative presentation, featuring pieces like “Song of the Wanderer”, “Your Smile Is So Beautiful”, “Mom’s Magic Wand”, “Listen to Mom’s Words”, and even “Fragrance of the Night”, a classic beloved by many mothers.

The school is filled with music—sometimes tender and emotional, sometimes bright and powerful—as students practice eagerly, hoping to express their love through these performances and deliver a meaningful surprise.

This Mother’s Day celebration is more than just a display of language skills—it’s a powerful lesson in life and love. As the students learn Chinese, they’re also learning how to express, feel, and respond to love.

Irvine Chinese School remains committed to its teaching philosophy of integrating language learning with cultural experience.

The school strives to create a warm and meaningful environment where students are encouraged to express gratitude, love, and blessings in Chinese through real-life experiences.

Let’s look forward to this Special Mother’s Day event, where students will present their heartfelt gifts and celebrate a day filled with love, gratitude, and family warmth.
