IECSA actively gives back through community service.
At the community center, Chinese seniors gather daily—writing calligraphy, dancing, doing tai chi, and singing. This is daily life at IECSA: active, joyful, and full of heart.
Founded with Purpose: A Second Home for Seniors
Founded in 1992 by John Chih-Hsiung Chao and General Chung Fan, the Irvine Evergreen Chinese Senior Association is a tax-exempt nonprofit serving Chinese seniors with a non-political, non-religious mission.
2,200+ Members Strong
From 20 founding members to over 2,200 today, IECSA has grown alongside Irvine, from a town of 10,000 to a city of 300,000—reflecting the strength of the Chinese community.
Never Stop Learning and Smiling
IECSA offers popular classes like calligraphy, tai chi, dance, choir, and painting. Even during COVID, online classes kept going. Weekly schedule:

Monthly Gatherings Full of Life
Every third Saturday, IECSA hosts a full-day gathering with birthday parties, entertainment, karaoke, health talks, raffles, and a heart-to-heart session led by Dr. Nelson Mar.
Under Co-Presidents Jerry Chang and An Hu, each event draws about 150 members and is filled with warmth and connection.
Festive highlights include roses for Mother’s Day, zongzi for Dragon Boat Festival, mooncakes, longevity peaches, red envelopes, and live shows like lion dance, face-changing, and Peking opera—bringing Chinese traditions to life.

Culture You Can Feel
Every festival brings traditions to life—Mother’s Day roses, Dragon Boat dumplings, Mid-Autumn mooncakes, Lunar New Year red envelopes, and live shows like lion dance and Peking opera.
Building Community Together
In 1994, IECSA helped raise $100K to start Lakeview Senior Center and joined its groundbreaking. Today, 16 board members and many volunteers work closely with the City of Irvine to serve and grow.
