As the year came to a close, the South Coast Chinese Orchestra held its annual celebration on December 10, transforming its weekly rehearsal into a lively musical showcase.

Students from the erhu, yangqin, guzheng, dizi, and Chinese drum classes joined orchestra members on stage, presenting their progress with confidence and spirit.

Many had only studied for two or three months, yet their rhythmic accuracy and enthusiasm impressed the audience and highlighted the strength of the Center’s music education.

Drum Thunder |  Youth Brilliance

The evening opened with the commanding rhythms of the Chinese Drum Ensemble, whose layered beats immediately set an energetic tone.

Students from each Chinese instrument class took the stage one by one, introducing themselves and performing pieces that showcased their distinct musical voices—from soft and lyrical to bold and vibrant.

East Meets West | Joy Abounds

This year’s program showcased an impressive mix of music : the children’s classic Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, the iconic solo Horse Racing (賽馬), Beethoven’s The Tempest, and favorites like Can’t Help Falling in Love.

Seasonal Christmas selections added warmth and festivity. The diverse repertoire underscored the orchestra’s mission to blend Chinese musical heritage with global traditions on a shared stage.

LEGENDS Prelude | Chang’e Debut

A major highlight was the debut of new works by Conductor and Composer Bin He for the 2026 original production LEGENDS – Chang’e Flies to the Moon.

The grand yet delicate melodies captivated listeners and offered an early preview of next year’s large-scale performance.

Earlier this year, the orchestra staged its original production LEGENDS at Segerstrom Concert Hall, bringing together multiple performing groups in a visually and sonically stunning show that received wide acclaim.

Preparations for the 2026 chapter are now underway, promising an even more immersive experience.

Shared Moments | Bright Tomorrows

After the performances, members and families gathered to share homemade dishes, celebrating with laughter and conversation.

The event strengthened the sense of community while giving parents a closer look at their children’s musical progress and the orchestra’s teaching philosophy.

The orchestra extends warm wishes of health, peace, and happiness to all families, and encourages students toward continued academic and artistic growth.

As the new year approaches, the ensemble looks forward to meeting new challenges together—guided by music, friendship, and shared passion.
