South Coast Chinese Cultural Center’s new LEGENDS chapter, Chang’e Flies to the Moon, will blaze onto Segerstrom Hall on May 30!
Featuring 17 instruments, dance, wushu, rhythmic gymnastics, aerial acrobatics, and animated visuals, it promises a breathtaking mythic spectacle.
LEGENDS Returns • Chang’e Rises
Over the past two years, LEGENDS has brought Mulan, the Monkey King, and Nezha to Segerstrom Hall, earning acclaim and sold-out crowds while showcasing the enduring appeal of Chinese culture.
This year, LEGENDS returns with Chang’e Flies to the Moon, continuing its original vision with richer music, deeper emotion, and more imaginative staging.
Blending original music, dance, Chinese martial arts, rhythmic gymnastics, aerial acrobatics, and multimedia storytelling, the production creates a mythic world where fantasy and reality merge.
Moonflight Ascends • Senses Awaken
From Hou Yi shooting down the suns to Chang’e soaring to the moon and the tender close of Mid-Autumn reunion, the production draws audiences back into a legend deeply rooted in Chinese cultural memory.
Composer and conductor Bin He said LEGENDS is more than a retelling of myth. Through original musical theater, it aims to build a bridge between Chinese culture and contemporary society.
Yulan Chung, CEO of the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, said the LEGENDS series carries forward the Center’s mission of promoting Chinese culture through the arts, and warmly invites audiences of all backgrounds and generations to experience its beauty through Chang’e Flies to the Moon.
