LEGENDS has moved beyond the stage and into family memories!
At the pre-show VIP reception, South Coast Chinese Cultural Association(SCCCA) CEO Yulan Chung said that since its 2024 debut, LEGENDS has become a platform for family, community, and cultural identity.
She shared that Segerstrom Center for the Arts President and CEO Casey Reitz messaged her ,saying this is the third time they watched Legend with his entire family, and it became a family tradition. — a message that deeply moved her and the team.
Angels Unite Culture Endures
Yulan Chung emphasized that LEGENDS could not move forward on stage alone; its strength comes from years of community support and participation.

She recalled that when the first “Angels of Arts and Culture” joined in 2024, there were only a handful. This year, the group has grown to more than 40, giving this large-scale community production the momentum to continue.
Chung also recognized support from Hoag Hospital, Hoag Foundation, South Coast Plaza, Rady Children’s Hospital, Wang Family Foundation, WPM Foundation, Dr. David Chang, Sunstone, and American Lending Center, whose contributions have given the cultural production a stronger foundation.
Community Backs Stage Shines
The SCCCA Board also played a key role in bringing the project to life. Chung especially thanked Board Chair Janie Tsao, whose determination, passion, and volunteer spirit helped turn LEGENDS from vision into reality.
Chung emphasized that LEGENDS is neither a student recital nor a commercial production, but a community-rooted cultural and educational project.
As SCCCA celebrates its 50th anniversary, Chung said LEGENDS carries even deeper meaning. Through education, she believes culture can transcend political barriers — and LEGENDS is a powerful expression of that belief.
Classroom Starts Stage Soars
Through music, dance, theater, visuals, and community participation, Chung said LEGENDS brings Chinese culture, history, and values beyond the textbook and into public life, where audiences can see and feel them anew.
Cultural education, Chung said, must move beyond classrooms and into the community. LEGENDS brings generations together through one shared cultural story.
While the performance may not be perfect, she hoped audiences would be surprised and moved. Its true value lies in showing how a living community brings an ancient myth to the modern stage.

OC Roots Pride Shows
Chung hopes LEGENDS will help audiences see Orange County’s vibrant Chinese American community — a place many families call home and pass their culture to the next generation.
Through LEGENDS, SCCCA brings Chinese mythology to the stage while showcasing the unity, creativity, and cultural confidence of the Chinese American community.
