The South Coast Wushu Team recently delivered an outstanding performance at the USA International Kungfu Championships & USAWKF Kungfu Team Trials, standing out in a highly competitive field and winning 39 gold medals, 16 silver medals, 2 bronze medals, and 6 all-around awards.

The results showcased the team’s exceptional skill, discipline, and strong training foundation.

Elite Field, Fierce Competition

Sanctioned by the United States Wushu Kungfu Federation (USAWKF), this prestigious event serves not only as a high-level national and international open competition, but also as an official selection trial for the USA Kungfu National Team.

Outstanding athletes may qualify for the Pan American Kungfu Championships and the World Kungfu Championships, attracting top competitors from across the United States and international regions.

From May 23 to 24, 2026, the “USA International Kungfu Championships & USAWKF Kungfu Team Trials” was held in Redwood City, California.

This year’s event also featured renowned Chinese world champion Sun Peiyuan as a special guest, further elevating the competition’s international profile and technical standard.

Steady Focus, Golden Results

Under the leadership of Head Coach Xiangjin Kong and Coach Rujia Wang, the South Coast Wushu Team sent 16 athletes to compete.

Facing strong national-level opponents, the team achieved outstanding results, earning 39 gold medals, 16 silver medals, 2 bronze medals, and 6 all-around awards.

The athletes competed in Changquan, Nanquan, weapons routines — saber, straight sword, spear, staff — and various traditional martial arts categories.

They demonstrated strong fundamentals, mental resilience, and years of dedicated training. In addition, athlete Charles Zhan delivered an outstanding performance and successfully earned a place on the USAWKF National Team, becoming one of the highlights of the competition.

Martial Training, Cultural Roots

The South Coast Wushu Team is committed to promoting traditional Chinese martial arts culture.

Through structured training and competitive platforms, the program aims to help young people better understand and appreciate Chinese heritage.

The coaching team emphasizes not only technical skills, but also discipline, confidence, teamwork, and cultural development.

For many students, participating in a national-level competition is not only a sporting challenge but also a meaningful journey of personal growth.

Through competition, they learn to handle pressure, build confidence, and expand their horizons through interaction with athletes from different regions.

Virtue Through, Legacy Forward

These achievements are the result of the students’ long-term dedication, as well as the strong support of coaches and families.

The athletes demonstrated focus, discipline, and perseverance on the competition floor, fully embodying the martial arts philosophy of “cultivating virtue through martial practice.”

The South Coast Wushu Team stated that it will continue to provide a professional platform and more opportunities for young martial artists in Southern California, helping to promote and preserve Chinese martial arts culture internationally.
