Dragon and Lion Dance is one of the most iconic traditions in Chinese culture, with a long history and rich cultural significance.

It symbolizes good fortune, unity, courage, strength, and an uplifting spirit.

During the Lunar New Year, Lantern Festival, and other major celebrations, the powerful rhythm of drums and cymbals, together with the energetic lions and majestic dragons, creates an unforgettable atmosphere and brings Chinese cultural traditions to life.

More than a traditional performing art, Dragon and Lion Dance combines Chinese martial arts, physical conditioning, musical rhythm, coordination, and teamwork.

A successful performance requires every team member to stay focused, trust one another, and work together with precision.

Through training, young participants can improve their physical fitness and coordination while also developing concentration, responsibility, perseverance, and a strong sense of teamwork.

For Chinese American youth growing up in the United States, Dragon and Lion Dance offers an especially meaningful way to move beyond simply observing Chinese culture and instead experience, participate in, and proudly represent it.

By learning traditional skills, participating in community celebrations, and performing on diverse stages, young people can deepen their understanding of their cultural heritage while becoming young cultural ambassadors who confidently share Chinese traditions with the broader community.

To provide more young people with opportunities to learn and showcase Chinese culture, the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center (SCCCA) Dragon & Lion Dance Performance Team is now accepting registrations for Fall 2026.

The program is open to youth ages 10–17, and no prior experience is required. Classes are taught by professional instructors and will begin on August 22, with training held every Saturday from 9:30–11:00 AM.

Beyond regular training, team members will have opportunities to participate in community celebrations, large-scale cultural events, and stage performances throughout the year.

These experiences give young performers a meaningful platform to showcase Chinese culture while building confidence and stage presence.

Through group training and performances, students also learn communication, cooperation, responsibility, and teamwork.

Our goal is to make this program more than just a cultural class—it is a place where young people can stay active, build confidence, strengthen teamwork skills, and proudly share their cultural heritage on stage.

Meanwhile, registration is also open for the SCCCA 2026–2027 Adult Wushu Program.

Parents and adult Wushu enthusiasts are welcome to join, improve their fitness, and experience Chinese martial arts under professional instruction.
