The Joy of Music
The harmonica is an affordable, easy-to-learn, and portable instrument that welcomes beginners with no prior musical experience.
For adults and seniors, learning the harmonica is not only a wonderful way to develop an interest in music, but also an enjoyable addition to everyday life.
Playing the harmonica offers many benefits: it is affordable, beginner-friendly, supports breathing practice, easy to carry, can be played almost anywhere, offers a wide variety of music, builds musical appreciation, keeps the mind active, supports cognitive engagement, and can be enjoyed at any age.
From learning notes and rhythm to playing a complete song, every step can bring a sense of enjoyment and accomplishment.
A small harmonica can become a wonderful connection to music, daily life, and new friendships.
Music Brings Us Together
The Irvine Senior Harmonica Band (ISHB) was founded by Dr. Norma Ouyang in 2015 at Irvine’s Lakeview Senior Center.
Over the years, the group has brought together music lovers of different backgrounds and skill levels, especially those starting with no previous musical experience.
Through group lessons and ensemble playing, members learn music, build friendships, and gain opportunities to move from the classroom to the stage.
ISHB has been invited to perform at a variety of community events throughout Orange County and Southern California, sharing the joy of harmonica music while showcasing the energy and enthusiasm of lifelong learning.
No matter your age or musical experience, all you need is an interest in music to get started.
We warmly welcome you to join our harmonica class—learn, play, and enjoy the joy of music together!
