Congratulations to SCCCA newly elected and appointed directors: Beatrice Tseng, Rose Cheung & Wendi Chen.


Beatrice Tseng was born in Taiwan but left at the age of four. she grew up in Brazil, Colombia and Panama and came to the USA in 1984 to study at UCLA, where she obtained her BA and MA in Spanish and Portuguese Literature. Ms. Tseng has been teaching Spanish at Irvine Valley College since 1991, serving in various capacities such as Chair of the World Languages Department and past member of the Online Education Task Force, Honors Program Advisory Committee, Academic Affairs, and others.

She is the co-author of the “Instructors’ Resource Kit” that accompanies the college level Spanish textbook Dos mundos and has presented numerous workshops on the natural approach in language teaching, the usage of technology in the foreign language classroom, and teaching Spanish online.

In 2004, Beatrice Tseng was named “IVC Teacher of the Year” by the OC Department of Education and also received a “Model Online Course” award from the California Virtual Campus. In 2011, she was the recipient of the “Most Inspiring Professor of the Year” award presented by IVC's Psi Beta Chapter, the National Honor Society in Psychology.

In addition to her dedication to the profession as an educator, she has been passionately involved in the community with five organizations at various important positions for many years: SCCCA/ICS, Irvine Parent Teacher Association, Irvine Public Schools Foundation, Irvine Unified School District, and Assisteens of Irvine.

Beatrice Tseng was an adult student, taking Chinese on Sundays 1997-1999. Then she became a parent with both of her daughters being students at ICS for more than 10 years. She believes that her experiences in various capacities, as a student, a parent, an educator, and a community leaders have prepared her well to contribute to SCCCA.


Rose Cheung was born in Hong Kong and moved to the United States where she has since been actively involved in cultural and community engagement for over four decades. 

Inspired by her zodiac sign which identifies her as a natural helper, Rose Cheung has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to public service, beginning as early as her elementary school years, where she frequently served as the class service leader.

Her volunteer journey began in the 1980s, starting with her involvement at the Bowers Museum. There, she co-chaired one of the museum’s most distinguished fundraising events, Iron Spikes, honoring the Chinese railroad workers who contributed to the building of the transcontinental railroad from 1864 to 1869. 

From 1989 to 1998, under the Historical and Cultural Foundation of Orange County, Rose Cheung chaired four Kaleidoscope Festivals—hosted at Fluor Corporation, the University of California, Irvine campus, and the Huntington Beach Pier—celebrating multiculturalism and heritage.

In 1991, with the opening of the Irvine Barclay Theatre, she co-founded Bravi 9, a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to promoting both international and local performing arts. In more recent years, she has been actively engaged in the literary community, serving as President of the Irvine Book Club for three consecutive years.

Currently, Rose Cheung serves on the SCCCA Book Editors Committee, contributing to the publication of SCCCA/ICS’s Golden Jubilee commemorative book. She has received endorsements for the SCCCA Board of Directors candidacy from both Mr. James Guo and Ms. Janie Tsao.

Rose Cheung brings to SCCCA a rich background in cultural advocacy, event leadership, and nonprofit service. Her experience as a community leader and dedicated volunteer reflects her deep-rooted passion for heritage preservation and civic engagement, making her a valuable asset to the continued growth of SCCCA.


Wendi Chen has been actively involved with SCCCA in recent years. She has served on the SCCCA Board of Directors: 2019-2021 and 2021-2024. During her board terms, she served as Secretary of the Board in 2021-2022, as Vice President of the Board in 2022-2023 and as President of the Board in 2023-2024. 

Wendi provided her advice and while she was on the Construction Committee which supervised the remodeling of Amphitheater and Chinese Garden, and the additional building at 10 Truman, tenant improvement project, Classroom 101- 104 bathrooms project and exploring the possibility of Chinese cooking class. 

With her kind support and dedication, the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center was able to establish the first South Coast Wushu Team in 2023-2024. 

Wendi Chen was born and raised in Hong Kong. She obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering at California University, Fullerton. Then she went to live in Taiwan for about 10 years.

In 2000, she was one of the founding members of a start-up Blue LED chip manufacturer. Her position was Chief Administration Officer and in charge of the company IPO. 

In 2005, she moved back to the United States and started a company HDWC, Inc. doing real estate investments, managing residential units and/or developing commercial properties until now.

Prior to volunteering at SCCCA, she volunteered at varied nonprofits such as Global Federation of Chinese Businesswomen where she served as Southern California Chapter Vice President in 2013; Orange County Chinese Association CCF Scholarship Operation Committee Co-Chair.
