Irvine’s first Older Adults Resource Fair was held on June 28 at the Portola Springs Community Center, featuring 25 city and county organizations.
The event was designed to connect older adults with essential services and resources, and was organized by the office of Councilmember Melinda Liu to better serve Irvine’s growing senior community.
The fair opened with strong support from representatives of Congressman Dave Min, State Legislators Steven Choi and Cottie Petrie-Norris, Councilmember William Go, City Commissioner Mike Chen, and Evergreen Chinese Senior Association leaders Jerry Chang and Ann Hu,
underscoring the community’s shared commitment to senior well-being.
Participating organizations included the City of Irvine, Irvine Police Department, OC Registrar of Voters, OC Clerk-Recorder, OCTA, SCAN Health Plan, and the Evergreen Chinese Senior Association,
offering a wide range of services—from voter registration to healthcare and transit information.
The event featured three practical, senior-focused workshops.
Community Legal Aid SoCal led a session on elder fraud prevention, while the Elder Law and Disability Rights Center provided an introduction to essential estate planning for aging in Orange County.
The South Asian Senior Association (SASA) hosted a wellness dance workshop, with Councilmember Melinda Liu joining residents on the dance floor for a joyful, uplifting experience.
In addition, a fan-painting booth—co-hosted by the Evergreen Chinese Senior Association and the Chinese Calligraphy Club
—offered live calligraphy and traditional artwork on decorative fans, which were given out as free cultural keepsakes.
Councilmember Liu said the fair reflects Irvine’s commitment to building an age-friendly city.
She thanked all participating organizations and volunteers, and pledged continued support for senior wellness and quality of life.
