On July 16, the Chinese Calligraphy Club of Laguna Woods Village held a creative ink painting workshop, where instructor Grace Huang guided students in applying traditional brush techniques to modern clothing.

Under her thoughtful instruction, flowers, birds, fish, and landscapes came to life on fabric—stunning, expressive, and wearable.

CCCLWV promotes Chinese painting and calligraphy to share traditional culture.

Blending classic brushwork with modern aesthetics, the club brings ink art into daily life—turning clothing into wearable expressions of heritage and style.

Ink on Fabric, Color Locked

To help beginners, Grace Huang started with fabric and color tips—light cotton, linen, or silk work best to show ink flow and detail.

Grace Huang emphasized using fabric-safe inks and practicing on test cloth to master ink flow before painting on garments.

After finishing, Grace Huang stressed heat-setting—air dry, then iron to lock in color. For durability, hand wash gently and avoid soaking or machine wash.

Trace and Print, Capture the Spirit

In the second half, students used their own garments to trace or stamp designs with Grace Huang’s guidance. She refined each piece, turning simple fabric into stunning works of wearable art.

After sketching, Grace Huang refined each piece, adding depth and life. As garments bloomed with ink, the room lit up with pride.

Wear the Art, Walk with Culture

“I never thought I could do this—wearing my own art feels amazing!” said one student. Another added, “Now culture lives in what I wear.”

“Painting on paper is art; on clothing, it’s art you live in,” said CCCLWV Secretary Qiu-Lian Zuo. She welcomed all who love Chinese culture to join and bring brushwork into daily life.
