To celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, California Assemblymember Dave Min hosted the annual AAPI Empowerment Summit on May 2 at the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center.

The event brought together leaders from government, education, healthcare, law, business, and community organizations—honoring AAPI role models while strengthening community voices through meaningful dialogue.

Voices Rise   Future Builds

The summit brought together leaders who uplift AAPI voices, stories, and communities—honoring past achievements while tackling urgent issues from immigration and healthcare to housing, education, and entrepreneurship.

Assemblymember Dave Min noted that many Asian Americans feel growing concern amid immigration enforcement, hate speech, and rising social tension.

He emphasized that although AAPI communities come from diverse roots, they share immigrant journeys and a deep belief in democracy, education, science, diversity, and inclusion—values that strengthen both their families and America.

Diverse Roots Shared Values

Min said that when core values are being challenged, diversity and inclusion must be defended with greater resolve.

He called Orange County’s diversity a defining strength and urged stronger ties, next-gen leadership, and greater contributions to America’s future.

Leaders Gather Stars Shine

Honorees included Diamond Jamboree President Julie Hsu, UC Irvine Professor Zhi Zhong Fan, BCD Tofu House owner Edward Lee, author and filmmaker Dr. Miriam Saada, Friendship Shelter CEO Nishtha Mohendra, Kaiser Permanente cardiologist Dr. Ravi Jandhyala, and attorney Bandana Kaur Singh.

Across education, healthcare, housing, business, law, storytelling, and public service, they turn expertise into service and stand as inspiring AAPI role models.

Each honoree also shared their journey in America and reflections on service, resilience, and community impact.

Music Moves Cultures Connect

Aloha Seniors brought Hawaiian flair, while a Korean youth orchestra added fresh energy, showcasing the vibrancy and diversity of AAPI culture.

Irvine City Councilmember Melinda Liu and CEO, South Coast Chinese Cultural Center Yulan Chung also attended in support, highlighting the shared commitment to AAPI civic engagement and cultural heritage.

From honorees’ service to cultural performances, from elected officials to community leaders, the summit sent a clear message: AAPI voices will be heard, present, and powerful in shaping a more inclusive future.
