Chinese immersion beginner camp tailored for children who will be entering kindergarten through 1st grade in Fall 2024 and beyond. We offer a fully immersive experience with all classes taught in Mandarin Chinese. Each two-week session is based on a different theme, with engaging storytelling, arts and crafts, and games. Our professional teachers are experienced in teaching young children, and are dedicated to helping each child reach their full potential in language acquisition and cultural understanding. Join us for a fun and enjoyable learning experience that will enhance your child's language skills and introduce them to simple Chinese characters.

Mandarin Conversation 中文會話班 (CSL)

Our Mandarin Conversation Camp offers a dynamic and engaging way for incoming 2nd-6th grade students to learn Mandarin Chinese. Through group activities, storytelling, games, and crafts, children will develop their language skills and learn practical daily conversations that are both fun and useful. An evaluation will be conducted to determine the appropriate level for each child, but no prior knowledge in Chinese is required to register. Join us for a fun and immersive experience that will help your child develop their language abilities and cultural understanding.

During the two weeks of each session, students will take turns to be immersed in five thematic teachings. Each theme will be responsible for a teacher, bringing Rich teaching content.

Theme

Students will participate in a weekly rotation of five cultural courses (A-E) , grouped based on their morning language proficiency levels. Novice-Low students will receive appropriate English assistance.

Five courses are as follows:

A. Cultural Crafts 文化手工 : Engage in creating cultural art projects using techniques like calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting.

B. Scientific Inventions科學發明 : Explore ancient or modern scientific practices such as papermaking, printing, gunpowder, and dyeing.

Admission Policies and Fees

Fees

  • Registration Fee (K- 6th): $45.00/per family. Registration fee is not refundable.
  • Friendly Reminder: The last day of the registration for each session will on Tuesday, the week before your scheduled class. 

Discounts:

  • All tuition offers a special discount for early registration. Here are the deadlines:
  • March 18 – March 31: 10% off discount of tuition
  • April 1 – April 21: 5% off discount of tuition
  • April 22 – May 5: 3% off discount of tuition

 

Payment

  • Fees are due prior to completion of registration.
  • Payments are accepted via credit cards through our online registration system.
  • Each bounced check is subject to a $30.00 fee.

 

Refund/credit policy:

  • There are no refunds, credits or makeup classes for any absences.
  • All tuition refund requests must be submitted in writing through info@sccca.org.
  • Here are the deadlines:

April 30, 2024 – last day for an eligible refund, minus 10% of tuition program processing fee
May 15, 2024 – last day for an eligible refund, minus 15% of tuition program processing fee
May 31, 2024 – For an eligible refund, minus 40% of tuition program processing fee
After May 31,2024 – No refund at all

  • Any registration fees paid at the time of registration are non-refundable.
  • After submitting the written refund request, please allow 30 days for the refund checks to be processed.
  • Class change requests must be submitted in writing at least one week before the start of the first scheduled class of the course. Class changes, pending availability, are subject to a $20.00 administrative fee.

 

Drop off and pick up:

  • Summer Program operation hours are from 8:00AM to 5:00 PM daily. If you sign up AM session only (operation hours: 8:00-11:50AM), the earliest drop off time will be at 8:00AM. If you sign up PM Session only (operation hours 1:00-5:00PM), the earliest drop off time will be at 12:50PM. The latest pickup time should not over 5pm. A fee of $1 per min will be charged if late pick up occurs.
  • SCCCA reserves the right to withdraw the student from the class if late pick up occurs more than three times.

 

Conditions for service and grounds for termination

Conditions for Service

Parents must agree in writing to abide by the guidelines and rules listed in the registration package. Families and children must meet the following conditions for service.

Ready for the group care program. We do not discriminate against any child on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, marital status of parents. Our goal is to meet the individual needs of each child within the structure of our program while maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all children and staff. Children with special needs will be considered for admission to the program on a case-by-case basis.

 

Grounds for termination when

  • Student poses an actual direct risk of harm to self and others, or cannot be accommodated safely
  • A student is unable to participate in a group care program and needs one to one care. A student or parent exhibits improper, uncivil, disrespectful, abusive, or dangerous behaviors toward others.
  • Students should respect the rights and needs of others and not act in a disruptive manner. student poses an actual direct risk of harm to self and others, or cannot be accommodated safely
  • Students who are unable to participate in a group care program and need one to one care include children with special needs, such as the emotionally, physically or behaviorally (hyperactive) challenged, will be suggested to consider school/center with a nurse/consular for the best benefits and learning outcome of the students.
  • Electronic devices (cell phone/game sets) are prohibited and if carried, will need to be submitted to staff/teacher in the beginning of the program/class and the school/program is not responsible to repair and/or replace the items.
  • Gum is not allowed on school property (indoor/outdoor). Items will be taken away and one day absent from the program will be required.
  • No Foods/intake items sharing of any kind in program hours. 911 will be called for any irregular/emergency symptoms and parents need to repay/reimburse SCCCA/ICS for medical and any other expenses incurred in his /her case.

Sign in/Out Procedure, Food service

Arrival

  • All children must be accompanied to the designated area and signed in by an adult with his or her full signature. The program does not and will not accept responsibility for children who have not been signed in whether they are left in the school premises or not.

 

Departure

  • Each child must be signed out by a parent or an authorized adult with his or her full signature. Children are only released with parents or authorized adults (over 18 years old) listed in the school’s contact system. It is parents’ responsibility to provide the program staff with a list of authorized adults or update the information on the school's system on a regular basis. If an unauthorized adult attempts to pick up your child, the program staff member will request to check the unauthorized adults' driver license and will record certain information from it.

 

Food Service

  • Snacks and Lunch: Due to the increasing number of children who are allergic to nuts, please prepare nuts free snacks or lunch for your child that do not need to be heated.
    Gum is not allowed and all intake items are not allowed to share with others (adult/child).

Code of conduct

We expect parents and children to respect all other parents and children. Unacceptable behavior, including, but not limited to, bullying, name calling, rude behavior, disrespectful behavior, dangerous behavior and fighting, will not be tolerated. Parents and children who exhibit this behavior are subject to withdrawal of the student from their program.

 School-Wide Rules

  1. Students should respect the rights and needs of others and not act in a disruptive manner.
  2. Students are responsible for their personal belongings. The school and the program are not responsible for students’ personal belongings.
  3. Students should be respectful of school property and are responsible for damage to property.
  4. Dangerous toys, weapons, toy guns, and drugs are prohibited in school.
  5. Chewing gum and candy are prohibited.
  6. Toys and/or electronic devices are prohibited without the teacher's consent, and the school and the program are not responsible for repair and/or replacement of the items.

Gymnasium Rules

  1. Please change to sports shoes with rubber soles before entering the gym.
  2. Sports shoes with wheels (Heelys) are prohibited in the gym.
  3. Students should take care to not act in a violent or disruptive way.

School Dress Code

  1. For safety reasons please wear closed-toed running shoes. Sandals and slippers are not permitted.
  2. Dress and apparel should be suitable for classroom learning and not distracting to other students, teachers or staff.
  3. Students may not wear hats, caps, combs, or picks, etc., inside the building.
  4. The dress, apparel, ornament, or grooming is free from words, slogans, or pictures, which advertise drugs, alcohol, or sex or which contain vulgar or offensive writing, racial slurs, suggestive pictures or emblems or which may infer membership in gangs

Commercial, Religious, and Political Activities

SCCCA/ICS is a non-profit organization and does not endorse any commercial, religious, or political promotion and activities. Children in the program are not permitted to have any of these activities.

Disciplinary Methods

Generally, the program teachers and staff use positive reinforcement to work with children. However, if the misbehaviors occur continuously, disciplinary actions will be taken and it may result in the termination of the service.

1st violation—Verbal Warning: Gather and review evidence; meet the student and explain how he/she violates Student Behavior Guidelines; record the incident.
2nd violation—Notify and meet with the student’s parent(s).
3rd violation—Dismissal from the program.
