Announcement From ICIA Founding Team on April 29, 2023:
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Benson Kwok has been appointed as the new Executive Director/Principal of Irvine Chinese Immersion Academy, 2023-2024. With over 18 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in Southern California public education, Dr. Kwok brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our school community.
Dr. Kwok has served as principal at a Dual Immersion Elementary School in Garvey school District. He is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel supported and valued. During his tenure, he promotes bi-literacy and cross-cultural competences and launched initiatives to support academic and social emotional growth in all students. Prior to the principal post, Dr. Kwok served as an Assistant Principal and Assistant Director of 21st Century Learning at Las Palmas Middle School in Covina Valley Unified School District, where he worked effortlessly to improve the academic engagement and school climate. Dr. Kwok developed district-wide computer science initiatives, and analyzed data for increasing student engagement and performance achievement. In addition to administrative leadership roles, Dr. Kwok also served as a coordinator of Education Technology for Glendale Unified School District and a TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment) specializing in Instruction and Assessment for El Monte City School District.
Dr. Kwok holds a Doctorate’s Degree in Educational Leadership from University of Southern California, a Master’s degree in Teaching and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. He is well-versed in standards, assessments and integrating technology into classroom instructions. Dr. Kwok also believes in the importance of developing an inclusive learning environment that promotes innovation, creativity and critical thinking.
Dr. Kwok’s record has proven him as a highly effective administrator and leader. He fostered exemplary relationships with teachers, staff, students and families in the past. We are more than confident that Dr. Kwok will be dedicated to ensuring all students are afforded with equitable bilingual and bicultural learning experiences at ICIA.
